Who we are and at we do:
The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown have ministered in the Mahoning Valley since 1874. We are vowed women living community life and sharing in the mission and ministries of Jesus Christ, whose presence transformed the world. The Gospel calls us to give a special concern for the poor and disadvantaged in our ministry while living for the glory of God alone.
How much of your donation makes it to the programs:
Nearly your entire gift, 95%, goes directly to our ministries and care of our Sisters. The rest pays for such things as salaries of employees who work for the ministries/Motherhouse, postage and supplies. The Better Business Bureau suggests nonprofits have 65% or higher of donor dollars directly funding programming.
Where we spend the money:
Our Leadership Team has total financial oversight and designates fund allocation to our ministries as needed. The exception is if a donor has bestowed a restricted gift, meaning the donor has designated exactly how she/he wants the funds dispersed.
What our board of directors do:
Our board of directors, or Leadership Team, guides all aspects and activities of our religious community. Serving on our Leadership Team for 2014-2020 are Sister Mary McCormick, General Superior, and Sisters Regina Rogers, Patricia McNicholas and Norma Raupple. Sister Nancy Dawson, as immediate past Superior, also serves on the board of directors for the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown.
Ursuline Sisters elect leadership every six years. Every professed member who has physical and mental stamina to be present is part of the electing group. There are currently 39 Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown. Of those, 35 are active in some type of ministry to/in the community at large. The remaining four are active in prayer ministry.
As a religious institution, we have a constitution approved by the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Live at the Vatican. We also are a civil corporation and as such have articles of incorporation and bylaws that are in accord with the statutes of the state of Ohio.
