PRAYER for LENT
O God, who makes all things new,
new stars, new dust, new life;
take our hearts,
every hardened edge and measured beat,
and create something new in us.

We need your newness, God,
the rough parts of us made smooth;
the stagnant, stirred;
the stuck, freed;
the unkind, forgiven.

And then, by the power of your Spirit,
we need to be turned toward Love again. Amen.

Prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus with the help of this devotional about the love we find during Advent.

🎄In these last few days before Christmas Eve, we, like Joseph, receive a call to faithfulness, to notice the signs before us, listen to the messengers among us, and follow.😇

What does faithfulness look like in the face of grief? How do we follow the signs God gives us when our hearts are heavy with sadness? How does God dwell among us in the midst of the heartbreak in our individual lives, our communities, and our world? Perhaps the greatest gift we can give, the best answer we can offer to these hard questions, is the opportunity to rest in love and compassion, to pray together without insisting that we must be happy and carefree. The joy of our faith does not negate the difficulty of living faithfully in a broken world.

On this final Sunday of Advent, place an angel on the altar. Light the candle of love. Pray for the hurts of the world. Encourage one another to faithfulness with the assurance that God will guide us, like Joseph, with signs and messengers to live ready to welcome Emmanuel, God with us.🕯️

📖 “But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt.” — Luke 6:27–29

In these verses, Jesus calls his followers to display the ultimate humility—a radical, grace-filled love that refuses to mirror hatred or harm.

It’s not an easy calling. But it is the way of Christ: love that transforms enemies into neighbors and strangers into siblings.

💭 How might you practice this kind of love in your own life today?

All Saints Sunday is an opportunity to look beyond the walls of the local congregation and be reminded that, in Christ, we are bound up into a larger fellowship of those who look like us alongside those who do not look like us, sound like us, or gather like us. We can push the horizons wider to see that we are a part of something bigger than we can imagine. On this day, we celebrate the saints who have contributed to our growth, even though we may never have met them. We give thanks for those who have taught us about discipleship even when they spoke a different language or gathered with different traditions. It is another opportunity to unite with the worldwide body of Christ as we worship this day.
