Happy Mother's Day!
Father, we give you thanks for the many gifts you have given us: the gift of life, the gift of those who love us. We thank you today for the gift of our mothers, our mother figures, and for the gift of Jesus' mother, Mary, who so selflessly answered your call.
We give thanks for our Mothers who have died and for the unique way they have revealed for us your love. We ask that you bless them and keep them in your care until the time comes for us to join them in your Kingdom.
We ask your Blessing upon all Mothers that are with us today, even if they cannot physically be in our presence due to distance and other reasons. Give them the strength to live the faithful and loving lives you call them to live. Protect and guide them. Keep them in your care. May they know how much we love and care for them.
We pray for birth mothers who have loved their children so much they have shared the gift of their child with those who could better care for them and their needs, and who could give them a secure home. And we pray for adoptive and foster mothers, that they may always know their special role of being a true mother, a revelation of God’s love for their children.
We ask your blessing upon Mothers who have lost children through stillbirth, crib death, accident, tragedy, war, and violence, that they may have your continuing strength and courage.
We ask your blessing, too, upon those who would very much like to be mothers but who are having trouble having a child.
Bless all the women in our lives who model for us the love of a mother. Protect them and encourage them to love as you have loved us.
We ask this Blessing in the name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

Update from Fr. Michael: Hello!
The process of determining diocesan staffing as it comes to priests is very challenging. Annually or more these considerations come up for the bishop’s office.
It is with a heavy, but grateful heart that I announce to you that I will be concluding my time in St. Benedict Parish, and I will become the pastor of St. John of Rochester in Fairport on June 30th 2026. Fr. Michael Merritt will be coming to St. Benedict at that time to continue the journey with you.
Remember that these decisions are not about the past, but about the future! Do not dwell on a past, even if it is a wonderful one!
Remember that Christ is Lord and the Holy Spirit is responsible for any good we have achieved.
Know that you have a very excellent staff made up of servant leaders. They are amazing!
Please know how proud I am. You are my home. I have been blessed.
Love you all! In His peace, Michael Costik

As many of you know, Fr. Michael Merritt has roots here at our parish. He was part of our youth group as a teen, and he celebrated his first Mass here in June of 2017 after being ordained (see photo). As we prepare to welcome Fr. Michael Merritt back home to St. Benedict Parish in two months, we ask that you keep the priests, staff, and parishioners in prayer as we work through this transition.
