The Holy Synod of Bishops of the OCA has released a statement and put together a service of thanksgiving for us to offer in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

'We give thanks to Almighty God for the United States of
America—a nation that has, by the grace of God, afforded
its people the freedom to worship, to follow the way of Jesus
Christ, and to bear witness to the Gospel without fear or
compulsion.'

Statement of the Holy Synod of Bishops:

'We embrace with joy the richness of our diversity. The
Orthodox Church in America gathers faithful whose ancestors came from Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Albania—
nations whose ancient Orthodox heritage now finds a new
home on this continent—as well as from Eastern Europe
more broadly, Greece, the Arab world, Africa, Asia, and the
Americas themselves. This diversity is not an obstacle to unity but an icon of the Kingdom of God, where there is “neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free” (Galatians 3:28), but all
are one in Christ Jesus. We treasure every thread even as we
weave them together into a single garment: the local Ortho-
dox Church in America.'

On June 17th, 2025 Fr. Seraphim and Rdr. Michael held the very first service for what would be the mission of St Joseph of Arimathea. After searching for about a month for places to offer services in, we landed on a meeting room in the Opelika Public Library. We brought some icons from home, set up a table, made choir books, and printed the music for Martyrs Leontius, Hypatius, and Theodulus. From this service forward we managed to offer at least one service per week for the last year. We bounced around between the meeting room, the Tompkins’ home, the Cotton’s apartment, and even once in Lake Martin! What a fun year it has been. We are so very grateful for the support we’ve had and are in awe at the growth we’ve experienced in that year’s time. Please join us tonight for our one year anniversary Daily Vespers service. We will gather in the hall afterwards for some food and fellowship. Glory to God for all things!

Rejoice, O mountains of Pennsylvania, leap for joy, O waters of the Great Lakes, rise up, O fertile plains of Canada, for the elect of Christ who dwelt in you are glorified, men and women who left their homes for a new land. With faith, hope, and patience for their armor, they courageously fought the good fight. Comforted by the beauty of the Orthodox Faith, they labored in mines and mills, they tilled the land, they braved the challenges of the great cities, enduring many hardships and sufferings. Never failing to worship God in spirit and truth, and unyielding in devotion to His most pure Mother, they erected many temples to His glory. Come, O assembly of the Orthodox, and with love let us praise the holy women, men, and children, those known to us, and those known only to God, and let us cry out to them: “Rejoice, All Saints of North America, and pray to God for us”.

We have a new baby in the church! This means we get to celebrate our very first infant Baptism at St. Joseph's! The Cotton Family is a very special family to this mission. For those of you that are new and don't know the whole story, here it is... We started this mission almost a year ago when we held our very first Daily Vespers service in a library meeting room. Shortly after scheduling regular services we realized that they only allow 12 meetings in a calendar year for any single group. We searched and searched for locations in the Auburn area and could not find anything that would work for us. The Cottons graciously offered their home when we ran out of sessions at the library and the rest is history! We turned their apartment living room into a Nave and had Great Vespers there every Saturday. Soon after that, we began having Divine Liturgy every Sunday.

Once we finally found our permanent location, Great Lent was approaching and between all the services, and all the work that needed to be done to the building, we never got to have a baby shower for the Cotton's first girl! Saturday, June 27th we will have the Baptism at 2pm, followed by a reception with a small baby shower for little Seraphima. You can find her Amazon REGISTRY HERE. We hope everyone can be there for the joyous celebration!
