URGE LAWMAKERS TO REMEMBER THE HUNGRY: A growing number of Pennsylvanians are facing food insecurity. Our ministries are stretching to meet growing need in the face of rising prices, but threats to a major anti-hunger program would create a gap that charitable giving alone will not fill. Please act soon! As this decision moves forward, we can use our voices to PLEASE ACT NOW! Urge a NO vote on a bill that would fund ICE and CBP for years without reforms including protections for churches and an end to family detention. https://act.elca.org/page/98814/action/1?chain

UPDATE 6/11/2026: Thank you for the thousands of emails and calls on this issue. Nearly 2,500 messages were sent to Congress through the ELCA Advocacy Center. This action alert is no longer active as on June 9th, the reconciliation package passed Congress and was signed into law. We will continue to advocate for reforms, oversight and welcome for our immigrant neighbors.

ORIGINAL POST: Congress is debating a reconciliation package that includes $38 billion in additional funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and $26 billion for Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has issued his first in a series of monthly messages that will continue through the end of this year under the title "All Together in One Place."

Each message will share a pastoral word, rooted in Scripture, that witnesses to God’s presence today, our rich theological tradition and the social teaching that connects us.

Panelists share powerful and personal accounts of our juvenile justice system and the church's call to not only advocate for policy reform, but also to build relationships that prevent incarceration and restore people to community. St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Perkasie hosted the conversation as part of a culminating presentation by LAMPa racial justice fellow Liliyana Beck on Sunday. Learn how to apply for the Isaiah 58:12 racial justice fellowship and scholarship program in the first comment and look for a full story about Beck's project and its imp act in next month's e-news. Join us in remembrance and prayer this Memorial Day.

Remember, mourn and give thanks for those in the military who gave their lives for justice, peace and the freedom of our country and all nations. Pray for the safety of those currently serving in the military and for the well-being of their families. —Prayer Ventures
