We are deeply grateful for the generosity of Ron Soder and his family in making this new columbarium patio possible. The entire project was generously donated by the Soder family in memory of Ron’s wife, Ann. This beautiful space will bless current and future families as they gather to remember and honor their loved ones.

Courage Does Not Mean Fearless

Scripture | Deuteronomy 31:8, NRSV
“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Reflection
We sometimes imagine courage as having no fear at all. But biblical courage is not the absence of fear. It is confidence in the God who goes with us. Joshua could move forward not because he knew exactly what would happen, but because he knew who would be beside him. You can be nervous, uncertain, or overwhelmed and still choose courage by trusting God in the middle of it.

Prayer
Lord, I confess that there are things I am afraid of today. Help me remember that courage does not require me to pretend those fears are not there. Teach me to trust your presence more than I trust my fear. Amen.

Practice
When anxiety or fear surfaces today, pause and say, “I do not have to be fearless. God is with me.”

Standing on the Edge of Something New

Scripture | Joshua 1:9, NRSV
“I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Reflection
New beginnings can be exciting, but they can also leave us wondering if we are really ready. Joshua stood at the edge of a new season with an enormous responsibility ahead of him. God did not require Joshua to have everything figured out before moving forward. God simply reminded him of what mattered most: God would be with him. Whatever new season you are facing, you do not have to enter it alone.

Prayer
God, when I feel uncertain about what is ahead, remind me that I do not have to have everything figured out. Give me courage to take the next step knowing that you are with me. Amen.

Practice
Name one new, uncertain, or changing area of your life. Before doing anything else about it today, pray, “God, you are with me here.”

God is not distant. In Jesus, God came near, entered fully into the human experience, and made His home among us. And through the Holy Spirit, God continues to dwell within us today.

See the Need and Respond

Scripture
“Let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9, NRSV

Reflection
The sermon asks a powerful question: What need do you see, and how is God calling you to respond? Like midwives, we can come alongside people and help make room for healing, hope, growth, and new beginnings. We may never know how significant a simple act of compassion will become. Following Jesus means paying attention to the people around us and being willing to enter the places where love, encouragement, and support are needed.

Prayer
Jesus, make me attentive to the needs around me. Show me where I can bring encouragement, healing, hope, or support. Give me the courage to notice and the willingness to respond. Amen.

Practice
Ask yourself today: “Who needs someone to come alongside them?” Then choose one concrete way to respond.

Courage Can Change More Than We See

Scripture
“So God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and became very strong.”
Exodus 1:20, NRSV

Reflection
Shiphrah and Puah could not have known how far their courageous decision would reach. Their faithfulness helped preserve a generation, including Moses, who would eventually lead God’s people out of slavery. Our choices may feel much smaller, but we rarely know the full impact of an act of faithfulness. A word of encouragement, a courageous stand, a generous act, or a decision to do what is right can become part of something God is doing far beyond what we can see.

Prayer
God, give me courage to do what is faithful even when I cannot see what will come from it. Use my choices, my words, and my actions for purposes greater than I can imagine. Amen.

Practice
Identify one thing you know God is calling you to do but you have been hesitant to act on. Take one faithful step toward it today.
