What do you think child trafficking looks like? Do you have ideas in your head based on movies and media? Do you suppose it is always some sinister individual snatching a child from their front yard? If you have this idea, I want you to know this is an exception and not typical. For almost four decades, I have been involved with trafficked children (or prevention) and I know very few cases that are like the movies or media. Most people think of sending money to organizations that rescue children to help with child trafficking. While that is also important, I have found the goal should be addressing the social problem that leads to why children end up missing. For our ministry in Romania, the most vulnerable population were Roma girls which is why we started our Education Inspiration program two decades ago. Ensuring that Roma girls and boys could continue to pursue an education without financially burdening their families took many of the risk factors away that we identified. Because our Christian preschool and after school programs have been astoundingly successful, we have graduated students from high school, trade schools, and even college! Now we see a VERY different standard of living than we did! We give all the glory to The Lord for how His love changes the hearts and minds of those who follow Him!
This young lady is from Fonau, one of the poorest villages in the area and where we have an after school program. She was able to pass the entrance exam and get accepted into a Christian high school in the city of Oradea, but this means she will have to pay to board there since it is impossible for her to get to school daily due to the distance. Her boarding fee is $100 per month and the cost of her meals is $130 per month. Maybe there is someone who can cover it all. Maybe there is someone who can cover half. Maybe there is someone who can cover $20 a month. Whatever amount, it is going to help her continue her education and become a statistic of a Roma girl that finished high school and not a Roma girl that ended up missing! We sooo appreciate those that partner with us in the fight to keep children safe!
