Catholic Charities of South Jersey has been showing up all summer for the communities we serve throughout southern New Jersey!

We’ve been to Paulsboro for a community outreach event sponsored by St. John of God and their Mobile Food Pantry; Salem Community College for a Senior Resources Fair and the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs rural healthcare community engagement project; and Cape May County, where we supported an event sponsored by The Branches Outreach in Rio Grande.

Each event has been an opportunity to connect with our neighbors, share resources, and respond to the needs of our communities.

We are grateful to our community partners and volunteers who help make this work possible.

When U.S. Army veteran Johnnie Walker learned a fellow veteran was facing homelessness, he turned to social media for help. The community rallied – and that experience inspired him to launch the CVAC - Citizens/ Veterans Advisory Committee.

Today, CVAC’s volunteers help local veterans and their families with housing, food, transportation, home accessibility, bills and more.

From installing wheelchair ramps to helping veterans avoid homelessness, CVAC is making sure those who served know they’re not alone. Plus, one of CVAC’s community partners is Catholic Charities of South Jersey, which says: “CVAC is a solid go-to when we need a bit more help.”

We’re proud to highlight LaToya Haynes, our Veterans Resource Manager, who recently participated in a military resource event at Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ).

The event connected students and community members with military career opportunities, valuable benefits, and dedicated support services designed to help them succeed in military service and beyond.

LaToya also had the opportunity to share information about the services and resources available to veterans through Catholic Charities of South Jersey. We are honored to support those who have served our country and connect veterans and their families with resources that can make a difference.

Catholic Charities of South Jersey was pleased to participate in the Senior Community Resource Fair hosted by New Jersey District 3 at Salem Community College.

Our team members, Madelyn and LaToya, connected with community members and shared information about the programs and services available to support individuals and families throughout South Jersey.

We also had the opportunity to meet Phyllis Jones, an Air Force Veteran and New Jersey Ambassador for the Military Women's Memorial, at the Military Women's Memorial table. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more, ask questions, and connect with the many organizations dedicated to serving our community.

Together, we are building stronger, healthier communities through collaboration and service.

Proud to represent Catholic Charities of South Jersey at the Region 6 Community Garden Gathering in King of Prussia and Philadelphia, alongside colleagues from across the country.

The event featured inspiring site visits to Martha's Community Farm, Martha’s Choice Marketplace, and Catholic Charities Casa del Carmen, where we were welcomed by Heather Huot, MSW, LSW, Secretary for Catholic Charities of Philadelphia and Executive Vice President. We also learned from presentations on food security, community gardens, SNAP Employment & Training, USDA Urban Agriculture, and innovative programs that are strengthening communities nationwide.

Thank you to Catholic Charities USA and all of the presenters and host agencies for fostering collaboration and sharing promising practices that will help us continue serving our neighbors with compassion and innovation.
