Listen at talking.catholicstarherald.org/podcast/father-nickolas-naticchione/

This week, we’re blessed to welcome the Diocese of Camden’s newest priest, Father Nickolas Naticchione, to Talking Catholic.

From his childhood at the Jersey Shore to his years in Catholic school, his formation in the seminary, and his deep love for music and liturgy, Father Nick shares the story of a vocation shaped by faith, family, prayer and the people who helped guide him along the way.

His journey culminated May 16 with his ordination to the priesthood, a joyful moment for Father Nick, his family and the entire Diocese of Camden. In this episode, he reflects on that grace-filled day, the celebration of his First Mass, and the hopes he carries into his priestly ministry.

What happens the day before a man is ordained a priest?

Today, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Deacon Nickolas Naticchione stood with his brother seminarians for rehearsal ahead of tomorrow’s Ordination to the Priesthood.

With the assistance of our Vocations directors, they walked through the Mass, where he will lay before the Lord, where he will be vested, and where he will be greeted by his brother priests.

After years of guidance, formation, and community, Nickolas is prepared for his ordination and to serve the people of the Diocese of Camden.

“I approach ordination with great peace and joy,” Deacon Nick shared, “eager to serve the Lord and His holy people as His priest.”

This weekend is also important for his brother seminarians standing beside him. They are seeing a man giving his life in service to God and His people which they too are preparing for.

The Mass of Ordination to the Priesthood for Rev. Mr. Nickolas Naticchione will take place tomorrow at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden. The Mass will be open to the public and livestreamed on the Diocese of Camden’s YouTube page.

If you’re a young man (16–39) wondering if God might be calling you, or wanting to learn more about what priesthood looks like, you don’t have to figure this out alone.

What are the steps a man takes before he is ordained a priest?

It’s not one big moment these men are preparing for but a bunch of big moments they take step by step.

On Monday, April 27, at St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie in Yonkers, two seminarians for the camdendiocese took those next steps as Nicholas Esposito was instituted as a Lector and Theo Deluhery was instituted as an Acolyte.

As a lector, Nick has the responsibility to proclaim Scripture during Mass helping others to hear the Word of God.

“My love and appreciation for Sacred Scripture has increased year by year,” Nick said. “It is my hope that those hearing the Word proclaimed hear it in a way that conveys that Christ is present in His Word.”

As an acolyte, Theo is entrusted with serving at the altar, assisting with the Eucharist, which is at the center of a priest’s life.

“Receiving the ministry of acolyte meant that I was one step closer to Christ’s priesthood,” Theo shared. “I am so close yet still far away. I am ready for these final steps one day at a time.”

If you’re a young man (16–39) wondering if God might be calling you, or trying to understand what the steps toward priesthood look like, you don’t have to figure this out alone.

A typed letter from a sixth-grader at Assumption Regional Catholic School, Galloway, posed some poignant questions to Diocese of Camden seminarian Joshua Thomas, who is attending Saint Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y.

“I have always wondered how people so close with God and their faith found out they were called to dedicate their life to God,” the student’s letter read. “I’m wondering what kind of signs you received. Were they obvious or subtle? Were they a lot or a little?”

That letter was just one of many penned by Catholic school students and youth in parish religious education programs as part of the annual Seminarian Letter Project, an initiative of the New Jersey Knights of Columbus
