When life feels unfair, we may question God’s presence or believe the lie that He is distant and uncaring. David faced immense struggles, yet he anchored himself in the truth of God’s character: “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness” (Psalm 86:15, NIV).

God demonstrates this character through unearned mercy and grace. He sees every struggle, cares deeply, and doesn't require us to be "good enough" before coming to Him. Patient, unchanging, and always faithful, He loves us even when we feel unlovable.

At the moment of our salvation, we begin to run the most important race of our lives. It requires great endurance and focus. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2) There will be many barriers and moments of fatigue throughout the course of this race, but it is Jesus that set us on this path and it is He that keeps us on course. We must fix our eyes on Him as both our example and our source of strength. He is the ultimate example of perseverance as He endured the most immense suffering imaginable with the knowledge of the good that followed it. We have the hope of heaven because of Jesus' work on the cross. We can run well knowing that heaven and eternity with our Savior awaits us.

Seasons of waiting are difficult especially when we live in a society of instant gratification. We think that we know what we need to feel successful, fulfilled, or happy, and we want it right now. We may even find ourselves frustrated with God for not simply listening and giving it to us. When we can learn to humble ourselves and trust Him in the waiting, there is so much beauty in the process. It is in these seasons that He can cultivate in us what is needed for what He knows is best for us. "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time." (1 Peter 5:6, NIV) His plans are perfect. He sees what we cannot, and He alone knows what we need and when the right time for us to receive it is. He has never let His people down.

Sometimes we find ourselves wondering if God is still present in all circumstances. We can easily rejoice in the good and see his hand at work in those moments, but it can be harder to have that confidence when nothing seems to be going right. It is an honest fear but an unfounded one. "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail." (Lamentations 3:22, NIV). He is a faithful Father whose love and concern for us is beyond comprehension. He is always present in every circumstance holding us and sustaining us. We can trust Him with our lives for there is no greater love!

There are repetitive themes in the Bible. This one spills over into almost every other concept: that our strength and power is not enough.
Our strength is not enough for salvation. Our strength is not enough to be a pleasant person. Or to overcome specific struggles or to endure pain. We are reminded in Ephesians 6:10:
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power." It is followed by the instructions to put on the armor of God! As you head to church, prepare and clothe yourself with God's truths and promises. Prepare yourself with His Holy Word as your sword! There is only one way we will make it - in the protection and guidance of God's sovereign and un-matchable might and strength!

How often do you simply abide in the Lord? How much of your day is spent in communion with Him? Do you only speak a quick word to him as you rush off to the next thing or do you spend your days seeking to be in his presence? Do you carve out a little time on Sunday without much thought the rest of the week or do you seek Him daily? "Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you." (Psalm 84:4, NIV). He is worthy of all of our praise in every moment. When our hearts are always positioned to a posture of praise even in the day to day, it is there that we will find peace and strength as we walk through life.

Today we gather at a building to worship the Lord together, but may our praise continue beyond those walls in every moment and circumstance. We invite you to join us this morning at 332 Columbia Ave. We hope to see you there!

We live in a broken world system that tries to distract us from truth. It is a system based on skewed feelings that try to convince us that what is wrong is right. Paul provides us with clear instruction on this matter. "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:2) As followers of Christ, we must think differently than the world and be grounded in the truth of God's word. As we surrender our lives to Christ and feel our minds with his truth, we are able to see clearly the path laid before us and move forward with confidence.

Today we honor fathers - our needed protectors and leaders! God has given fathers a role in our lives and in society that reflects part of the Lord's character - spiritual leadership/role-modeling, strength, bravery, courage, sacrificial love. He designed families to be whole with purpose - a father and mother. Fathers fill a role in their children's lives that mothers cannot! When any of these family pieces are missing, it hurts. One study in the National Fatherhood Initiative (2019) highlights the powerful influence a father's role has on children: "Children with involved fathers are at lower risk of poor outcomes including infant mortality, emotional and behavioral problems, poor school performance, alcohol and substance abuse, and criminal activity."
What do we do with this wisdom? We encourage and build up fathers today! Let's thank God for the fathers He's given us and encourage fathers to be what they were called to be!

Jesus suffered and died on a cross so that we could be set FREE from our old life, our old fate, our old habits and sins. His free grace did not save us so that we should stay the same. God is a new-life-giver! We were made for more than our carnal existence. The word "Christian" was created to describe the 1st century believers. It literally meant "little Christs," because they were so set apart in being imitators and image-bearers of our Savior Jesus Christ. If others were to size us up today, would we be worthy of the name "little Christ"? Let us seek Him every day - not for approval or salvation (because that has been accomplished by the blood of Jesus). Instead, let us seek Him in obedience because He is worthy of our faithfulness and surrender. Let us humbly bow before Him to be transformed into the people He created us to be: sons and daughters who are self-controlled, patient, kind, joyful, and much more! Little Christs.

To be rescued from hell is a wonderful and merciful thing! But God wants so much more for us. His design is not just transactional. From the very beginning in the Garden of Eden, we were spiritually designed to be in relationship with God. He is the piece that makes the human soul operate correctly! So often we want to be in control and keep God at the periphery for when He is convenient. Self-focused pride and insecurity determines so much of our life decisions. We often act as if we know better than God. Unfortunately, our hearts can be *so* deceitful that we often do not detect our own selfish and sinful motives. The solution is to recalibrate our minds and hearts to be God-centric instead of ego-centric. That is what brings about transformation in ourselves and in our world. Either He is "Lord" and "King" of our lives or He is not! Make sure today that you care more about what your Creator says than the world or even your own heart. Let's make our goal today to trust and follow Him!
