If God truly favors you, He will implant or insert someone into your life who is the ultimate encourager, selfless, honest (when their opinion favors you or is in alignment with yours and when it is not), integral, consistent, accountable, responsible, a prayer warrior and intercessor on your behalf, a support system in every way, knows your heart, will be your defender both in and out of your presence and someone ready to join you in war when the occasion arises. Pastor Doug Harris was all these things and more to me personally, to my family and to the ministry God called/chose me to birth. God loved me enough to entrust me with such a precious gift as Pastor Doug Harris.
I met Pastor Harris at Covenant House of God, under the leadership of Apostle Saundra Hagans. Covenant House was something that had to be experienced! In my opinion, Pastor Harris embodied the essence, spirit and strengths of that ministry. Our beginning was a little challenged because I would occasionally come late to choir rehearsal, lol (iykyk), but little did I know that God would place me on Pastor Harris’ heart years before I even thought about Pastoring and that he would also place him on mine. I had no idea either of us would be called elsewhere (I and my family loved Covenant House and didn’t want to leave when God called me to Pastor) and I surely had no clue Pastor Harris and I would wind up together.
I invited Pastor Harris to the first interest meeting of Kingdom Worship Center Church ‘on a wing and a prayer’ he would attend. Guess what, he came! Since then his support, voice and vast wisdom have been invaluable to me. He was a highly educated and successful man that traveled the world and he poured his wisdom into me. For the last 18 years we have entrusted one another with our feelings, thoughts, secrets, fears, etc. We have experienced much together, but the joys and victories far outweigh our valley experiences.
I sit now with constantly shifting thoughts. One moment I am in awe at the man he was and the next moment I am trying to come to terms with moving on without him physically being with us, while his wisdom will forever be with me. When I consider Pastor Harris, these words come to mind...God favored me!
