Congratulations to the four faithful healthcare professionals honored with the Saint Luke Award at the annual White Mass on Oct. 18 - Dr. Lisa DiMedio, D.O., FACP, and her husband, Dr. John C. Flamma Jr., MD, FACP; Rosemary Kates, MSN, RN, APN; and Dr. Alison Mancuso, D.O., FACOFP - for their excellence in medicine!

Held in the chapel of Virtua Health Our Lady of Lourdes, the Mass was celebrated by Father Jon Thomas, vicar general for the Diocese of Camden and pastor of Christ the King Parish in Haddonfield.

Sponsored by the South Jersey Catholic Medical Guild in collaboration with VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services, the Mass is so named for the color worn by those in medicine, and held annually on a Sunday near the feast of Saint Luke the Evangelist, who tradition holds was a physician.

This afternoon, Father Jon P. Thomas, vicar general of the Diocese, celebrated the annual White Mass in the chapel of Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, honoring physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals who put their faith into practice through the healing arts. He was assisted by Father Joseph Monahan, TOR, the hospital’s director of Pastoral Care, and Deacon Joseph Janocha, diocesan director of Hospital Chaplaincy, VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services.

Celebrated on the feast of Saint Luke, physician and evangelist, patron saint of physicians, the Mass included the presentation of the Saint Luke Awards, recognizing four healthcare professionals for their personal and professional witness to Catholic principles and values in healthcare throughout South Jersey.

In his remarks, Father Thomas reflected on the honorees’ witness of faith, emphasizing that the recognition “is not about their practices, but about their actions” — a reminder that faith is revealed not only in what we do professionally, but in how we care for others.

Flamma, Jr., MD, FACP, retired physician, member of the Board of Consulters of Villanova University’s Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, and instructor at the Rutgers School of Nursing; Rosemary Kates, MSN, RN, APN, Parish Nurse and Helping Hands Ministry at St. Damien Parish; and Alison Mancuso, DO, FACOFP, chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine.
