Harvard Hillel

Harvard Hillel Welcome to Harvard Hillel, your Jewish home-away-from-home at Harvard.

Harvard Hillel is the catalyst for Jewish life at Harvard, serving the cultural, religious, educational, social, and political needs of all segments of the undergraduate and graduate Jewish student communities. We also welcome and encourage Harvard faculty, staff, and the general public to participate in Hillel’s events and activities.

Yesterday was full of joy as we celebrated Harvard’s 375th Commencement with our seniors and their families, faculty, clergy, and university leadership.

And the celebration continues! We can’t wait to welcome alumni back to campus next week for Reunion and a full lineup of gatherings at Harvard Hillel.

If you have a sweet tooth, join us for the Francis Quint Ice Cream Social at Reunion next Saturday, June 6 from 3–5pm at Harvard Hillel. We’re proud to honor an alumna who brought people together through warmth, community, and dessert.

Last night, Harvard Hillel celebrated the Jewish members of Harvard's Class of 2026.

Graduates, families, faculty, and friends gathered for our annual Celebrate Jewish Graduates event, co-hosted by Harvard Chabad. It is one of the most meaningful evenings of our year, a chance to honor the students who have shaped this community and to send them into what comes next with the full weight of our gratitude and our pride.

To the Class of 2026: thank you for the leadership, the minyanim, the conversations across difference, and for everything you built here. Mazal tov, and welcome to the Harvard Hillel alumni community.

"Coming to Hillel for dinner on October 9th was an opportunity to hear from Jewish students, especially from Israeli students, about how they had been treated, about how they had often been shunned, sharing their stories of the personal grief that they felt when friends and relatives had been murdered." — Alan Garber, President of Harvard University

In our penultimate video of Hillel Global Giving Week, President Garber reflects on Harvard Hillel's role since October 7, 2023: as a place where students, faculty, and Israelis could gather and be heard, and as a partner that helped the University understand what its Jewish community was experiencing.

Today is the last day to have your gift matched. Through midnight tonight, every gift to Harvard Hillel will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000, thanks to Hillel International and two generous members of our Board of Directors.

"I was grateful to Harvard Hillel for organizing an alumni Shabbat dinner at one alum's house in Back Bay. I went there with my wife and with a few other alumni. A couple of current students joined as well, and it was a great opportunity to connect across generations, across different Harvard class years, Harvard school affiliations, and really just different experiences of life. The thing bringing us together was being physically in Boston, being Jewish, and being part of the Harvard Hillel community." — Nathan Rosin, MBA '23

Today's Hillel Global Giving Week video is for our alumni. Lynda Bussgang '91 and Nathan Rosin, MBA '23 reflect on what it means to be a Harvard Jewish alum right now, and what brings alumni back to Hillel: Shabbat dinners, gatherings, and a community that spans every Harvard school and every class year.

Every gift to Harvard Hillel this week is matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000, thanks to Hillel International and two generous members of our Board of Directors.

For the past two and a half years, much of the public conversation about Jewish students at Harvard has centered on a single question: are they safe?

That question matters. It's also a low bar.

In today's Hillel Global Giving Week video, artist Mike Mittleman, Harvard College Dean Tom Dunne, and more reflect on The People's Plate, a public art installation in the science plaza built from conversations with members of the Harvard Jewish community. The work places Jewish identity in the middle of daily campus life, where thousands of students, faculty, and visitors encounter it on the way to and from class.

Through May 8, every gift to Harvard Hillel is matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000, thanks to Hillel International and two generous members of our Board of Directors. Every dollar you give counts double toward our HGGW goal of $100,000.

"That is a form of bridging differences that models how we can thrive with the spirit of pluralism. And those lessons extend far beyond the Jewish community. That is part of the beauty of Hillel."

Today, Hillel Global Giving Week begins in earnest, and Harvard University President Alan Garber and Sarit Greenwood '29 share what makes Harvard Hillel rare: a space where Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, and secular Jews come together as one community.

Your gift today sustains the minyanim, the Shabbat tables, and the shared spaces where Jewish life at Harvard happens. Every gift is matched dollar-for-dollar up to the first $50,000, so your gift will count double toward us reaching our $100,000 goal.

"Harvard Hillel was the best version of Harvard I had access to."

That's how Rabbi Jason Rubenstein, our Executive Director, describes the place where, as an undergrad, he studied Talmud late into the night, played music, and met his wife.

Hillel Global Giving Week is here. From now through May 8, every gift to Harvard Hillel is matched dollar-for-dollar up to the first $50,000.

A weekend of welcoming the Class of 2030 - a Shabbaton, Bagel Brunch, the Extracurricular Fair, and a steady stream of "is this where everyone hangs out?" (yes, it is).

Thanks to the students, staff, and families who showed up to make Visitas feel like home for our newest community members. Three more months until move-in. Who's counting?
