It's been on my heart for some time now, months and months before the virus hit, to be a light in my neighborhood in some overt, yet gentle, way. But how? And I was I really ready to be so "out there" with my faith in my neighborhood? Maybe I'll get to it later, I resolved. So when the pandemic settled in, I knew it was time to break up with the spirit of timidity and follow the pull. So for the past three days, I've posted in my front yard a different scripture or encouraging message on a (fairly large) dry erase board propped up on an easel. I was completely shocked at the response. People from my neighborhood, with whom I had never before spoken but have watched stroll past my house for years while walking their dogs, began to holler out to me while I was working in my yard, sharing with me how much they appreciate the words, the encouragement, the light that these messages, printed in my sloppy handwriting, were bringing. I had no idea these signs would have the impact they seem to be having. And I repent for that. Suddenly strangers who were my neighbors are now, well, neighbors. People who need love. And it took The Lord to introduce us. When I posted today's sign about forgiveness "Today's Workout: Forgive 3 People", there were nearly several accidents caused by folks driving by, slowing to read the words. The ultimate message for you: Don't assume the world doesn't need your Light! They are looking, craning their necks, to find hope. Just go for it--and in your own front yard.
