Welcome back everyone! As we settle in after the first week of in person learning, we are going to take this opportunity to re-introduce (or introduce for the very first time!) some of our student-run organizations here at .
First up, HDS Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Students (HUUMS). HUUMS graciously hosted a moving first Noon Service of the year on Wednesday and are here to tell you a little more about what they do and how you can get involved. Are you a part of a student group that would like to be featured on the HDS account? DM us!
——
What you should know: HUUMS students and friends gather once a week, Fridays at noon. Students plan and lead our worship services and then we all have lunch together. Like UUs in general, we are interfaith and welcoming of people of any gender, sexuality, race, nationality, ability, and religion or lack thereof. As long as you treat others with kindness, you're welcome in HUUMS.
Organizational Goal: To support each other in living our Unitarian Universalist values while we are in divinity school, including friendship, financial support of other student orgs, and participation in the justice work of the greater student body.
Impact at HDS: One example of living our UU values is that we host UU history tours for visiting congregations and that work gives us funds to provide small grants other groups and students, such as HDS Holy Bees, the Material Aid and Advocacy Program, Freedom School, as well as donations to outside orgs supporting UUs of color.
Many of us are in training to become UU ministers, so we have a very praxis-oriented approach to divinity school. We are committed to concrete work that makes the world safer and more equitable for all humans in harmony with the Earth.
