A message from Fr. Darius,
I see green out there! It feels like being released from a prison of cold, brown and lifelessness. Spring is beautiful because it is so precious
and comes and goes so quickly - winter reluctantly ends and green shoots and buds emerge, and then once the trees are in full leaf the ordinary heat of summer begins.
Spring is a time of such exquisite rebirth! Nature speaks volumes, doesn’t it?
I see signs of rebirth here at Saint Luke’s and that gives me great joy. Several new folks have started coming to our church over the last
couple of years. As far as I can tell they feel part-of, included, valued. There are seniors and young people, children and young adults. All are
eager to be a part of who we are and what we are doing here and I celebrate that.
The Blessing Box, for instance, was suggested by one of our newer members, Susanna White, and installed by John Steele. It’s a way we want to share our vitality with the world around us as we bring food to share and hope we can be a blessing to those who are in need.
I especially love how welcome the energy of children is at Saint Luke’s. Kids play in the back of the church during the service but come up to bring the offering or serve on the altar. Once a month, on the second Sunday, we have Kids and Family as our theme and the music and sermon are aimed at helping young people connect with Jesus. And on the first, third and fourth Sundays we have Sunday School with a dedicated group of people leading and teaching the children. And we always do it even if there is only one kid in
church.
May the Lord love you and me into the fruitful and beautiful people he made us to be.
