Although it is still April, summer is just around the corner and the weather is warming up. In fact, the highest temperature recorded in the Coachella Valley during April was 98°F in 2024.

To stay safe during extreme heat, it's important to take the following precautions:

1) Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to maintain hydration.
2) Wear Appropriate Clothing: Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to help keep your body cool.
3) Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours; if necessary, schedule them for early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler.
4) Seek Air-Conditioned Environments: Spend time in air-conditioned places, such as shopping malls or public libraries, to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
5) Never Leave Children or Pets in Vehicles: Even with windows cracked open, interior temperatures can rise rapidly, leading to dangerous conditions.

We at Forest Lawn join family, friends, and fans to mourn the passing and honor the life of legendary pitcher Fernando Valenzuela. Fernando took Los Angeles and the baseball world by storm in 1981, when he became the first player ever to win both the Cy Young Award and Rookie of the Year in the same season. His success on the mound, including his famous screwball and his habit of looking skyward before delivering the ball, sparked a cultural phenomenon known as "Fernandomania."

A six time All-Star, World Series champion, Dodger broadcaster, and spokesperson for Forest Lawn, we remember a dear friend and a symbol of pride for the Latino community.
