Our Story: Seventy-Five Years of God’s Faithfulness

“Attempt Great Things for God. Expect Great Things from God.”

Those words have echoed through Belmont Baptist Church since its earliest days. They capture the faith that gave birth to this church and continue to shape who we are today.

But if there is one truth that defines Belmont’s story more than any other, it is this:

God has always been faithful.

As Moses challenged Israel in Deuteronomy 4 to “ask about the former days,” we also look back—not simply to celebrate our history, but to remember the God who has faithfully guided every step of our journey. Our confidence has never rested in buildings, programs, or people. It has always rested in the unchanging faithfulness of God.

God’s Faithfulness in the Past

Belmont Baptist Church was born out of revival.

In September 1950, a community revival in the Belmont area of Calhoun stirred hearts with a vision for a new church. Under the leadership of Rev. Henry Holland and Rev. H. F. “Fite” Barnette, Belmont Baptist Church was officially organized on November 19, 1950.

The church’s first worship services were anything but traditional. The congregation initially gathered in a clubhouse behind what is now the Gordon County Fire Department. Later, the Seventh-day Adventist congregation on South Wall Street graciously opened their building so Belmont could worship until a permanent church home could be built.

From the very beginning, Belmont was never defined by a building. It was defined by people who sought the Lord, trusted His leading, and were willing to step into the unknown believing He would provide.

For seventy-five years, God has proven Himself faithful.

He has saved lives, strengthened families, comforted the hurting, raised up leaders, called missionaries, and used ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things for His Kingdom.

When we remember Belmont’s history, we are ultimately remembering the faithfulness of God.

God’s Faithfulness Today

God’s faithfulness is not just something we celebrate from decades ago.

He is still at work today.

Every time His Word is preached, every prayer is lifted, every child hears the gospel, every student is discipled, every Bible study gathers, every worship service begins, and every act of service is offered in His name, God continues His work among His people.

Belmont exists because God continues to draw people into a relationship with Himself.

He is still changing lives.

He is still building His Church.

He is still worthy of our complete trust.

Our prayer is that every person who walks through our doors would come to know Him personally and experience His faithful presence.

God’s Faithfulness in the Future

As we celebrate God’s faithfulness over the past seventy-five years, we do not believe His greatest work is behind us.

We believe the best is yet to come.

Just as God called Israel to trust Him for the future after reminding them of His faithfulness in the past, He calls Belmont to move forward with confident faith.

The same God who planted this church through revival…

The same God who provided through seasons of sacrifice…

The same God who has sustained generations of believers…

…is the God who is leading us into the future.

Our desire is not simply to preserve our history but to build upon it by making disciples, serving our community, and reaching the next generation with the hope of Jesus Christ.

We still believe the vision that marked Belmont’s beginning:

Attempt Great Things for God. Expect Great Things from God.

Join the Story

Belmont’s story is ultimately God’s story.

It is the story of a faithful God who pursues people, transforms lives through Jesus Christ, and invites every generation to participate in His mission.

Whether your family has been here for decades or you are visiting for the very first time, there is a place for you.

Come worship with us.

Grow with us.

Serve with us.

And together, let’s continue telling the story of God’s faithfulness—for generations to come.

What a beautiful night of worship! ❤️

Our hearts are full as we reflect on an evening spent lifting high the name of Jesus together. Thank you to every musician, vocalist, and volunteer who faithfully served with your time, gifts, and dedication. Your willingness to lead and serve helped create a space where people could encounter the Lord.

And thank you to everyone who joined us! There is something powerful about God's people gathering with one voice to worship the King. We are so grateful for each of you and can't wait to see how God continues to move in and through our church family and community.

"Oh magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together." – Psalm 34:3

Have you ever walked away from reading the Bible feeling like you didn't get anything out of it? Maybe you've wondered why God isn't giving you the answers you're looking for.

Sometimes we're so focused on hearing what we want that we miss what God is already saying. The greatest blessing of Scripture isn't always finding the specific answer we were hoping for. It's allowing God, through His Word, to continually transform the way we think, love, and live.
