City of Refuge was born out of Midtown Mission, an inner city church in downtown
Atlanta. It started with about 20 people and a desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus to
the last, lost, and least. It started with one pr******te turning her life to Christ and the next week bringing one of her customers. It started with the homeless poor living in the
basement of the church. Today, 26 years later,
it’s one of Atlanta’s largest non-profit
organizations. We house about 250 women and children who find themselves in
homeless situations. We serve approximately 10,000 meals a month, as well as offer
assistance with legal, medical, and other social issues. We also offer job training to help
these families find a way out. We lead the charge for rescue from s*x trafficking and
offer help with multiple drug abuse programs. Tim and Sharon Langston have been a
part of this ministry for the past 23 years. Most of this community doesn't see the need for such an organization here, but
the statistics are staggering. In our county of 56,000, 1 in 5 live below the poverty level. On any given night, there are 64 people that are homeless and there are only 21 beds
available for emergency housing. None of these are for women. These statistics are
staggering m, but there are more. 1 in 4 children live in single parent households. 24% of the
adults in our community do not graduate from high school and only 15% have any
secondary education. Without education, it is difficult to break poverty cycles. Please
consider partnering with us to help those in our community who find themselves in
desperate situations. We are located at 100 Peters Street Suite 80, Calhoun, Georgia. We can be reached at 706-659-7622 or by email at [email protected]. For more information about our parent organization, City of Refuge Atlanta, please visit their website www.cityofrefugeatl.org. We meet for worship on Sunday mornings at 8:30 and11:00, and Tuesday nights at 6 for Celebrate Recovery. We would love for you to join us.
