Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

The rate at which young Americans took their own lives reached a high-water mark in 2017, driven by a sharp rise in suicides among older teenage boys, according to new research.

The Brown Bag of Groceries Story

Scripture Reading: Philippians 4:19

But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
We originally posted this From The Heart article several months ago, and since that time we have had numerous requests for it to be brought back. So, here it is back by popular demand. We hope you will enjoy this post and share it with your friends.

We have heard story after story about the provisions of God in people’s lives. Over the years, I have shared quite a few of my own. This article is similar but comes from a twenty year old who has been raised in a home of faith.

She shared her story after hearing my husband preach on living out our faith. The daughter of a pastor, she told of how her parents lived each day and week by faith. She shared how they never withheld any hardship from her, and that she oftentimes heard them say that they needed things but their only choice was to have faith that God would provide it. She told how she saw God miraculously provide those needs through a check in the mail or through other means for which the explanation was ONLY GOD!

One day in particular stood out to her when someone showed up at their house with a brown bag full of groceries. She wasn't ashamed to share that story. She actually made it a testimony of how her parents’ faith had flowed over into her own personal belief and intimacy with Christ. Their trust in God was a witness of His faithfulness and provision in her own life. She was proud to say, “I know what it is like to trust God everyday for everything.” That brown bag of groceries arrived full of God and His concern for them. She proudly quoted, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

As I listened, I was taken back to my own brown bag experience. During my years of grand mal epilepsy, God placed a brown bag of groceries at our front door while we were not at home. No one knew we needed groceries but God. To this day, some 21 years later, we have no idea who placed them by the door, except God Himself. We give Him all the glory and are not ashamed to share how it grew our and our children’s faith as they were with us when we discovered that brown bag of groceries.

Everyone has a brown bag story that should be shared with someone who is weak in their faith. From my heart to yours, I pray that you will share with others, especially your children and loved ones, how God has grown your relationship through brown bag experiences. Romans 1:17 says, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”

Aiming For Excellence-Devotion
To aim means to direct a weapon. It means to direct purpose and intention. First, to aim you must focus and concentrate on an object and point toward it. Next, you must release. You must have on the proper equipment and protective gear and turn loose of the arrow. Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” Finally, achieving excellence is when you reach the state or quality of being exceptionally good.

What is the quality of your performance? What is the state of your attitude? Are you demonstrating excellence?

Aiming for excellence as a child of God requires you to be the weapon. You must aim with purpose and intention, and focus on the object of your passion, which is Jesus Christ. You must release your passion with such a superior quality that your performance in every area of life, from home to the streets, demonstrates a reputation of exceptional righteousness. This requires a crown of endurance, stamina, and motivation. 1 Corinthians 12:31 says, “But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.”

Your Mind Is A Battlefield

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:”

We must acquaint ourselves with our enemy. We must learn his tactics, his personality and his weapons. His tactics are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life.

Using these tactics, the enemy will engage us in battles of:

Social Acceptance
Impressing or being impressed
Being influenced by our peers
Doing whatever it takes to fit in

Worldly Success
Houses
Cars
Securities
Finances

Career Goals
We make our career our god
We take credit from God, and we give it to ourselves
We feel successful
We feel we have accomplished something on our own

Physical Appearance
Peer pressure from the media as well as co-workers
Dissatisfaction with God’s creation
Pressure to change ourself

As we fall prey to these tactics, we begin to recognize the personality traits of our enemy. John 10:10 defines them for us. It says, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” Satan’s personality is defined in the three simple words steal, kill and destroy. Time In The Garden-Family Devotional

Teacher Brenda Jean Robinson

"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." I Cor. 9:24-27
Paul presents the Christian life as running a race so we will understand that serving God requires discipline from us. Serving Him takes hard work, self-denial and planning to receive Heavenly awards. Christianity is not a spectator sport; it is a race we must run.
From my heart to yours, you will be tested, tried, and tired at times, but these are not reasons to let the task go unfinished. You will catch slack from others, and probably even be talked about by those you love, but you must remember that they are not the only ones you must please. Your rewards come from God alone, and His rewards are greater than any you could received from this world.
