Matthew is our youngest child of 8. He is such a great worker he has had regular employment since being a teenager. The accompanying picture is the day he was baptized. Since this day he has been God's workmanship. He has always been a good employee. The Bible verse today is
Ephesians 2:10,
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

This is our prayer: "Gracious God, You sent Christ Jesus into our lives at just the right time. Jesus became our Lamb of sacrifice so that we could be forgiven, healed, and empowered to do Your will. Today gracious God send Your Holy Spirit into our lives. Let us do good for our family, our partners and children, and our neighbors. May we see You Jesus through the life we live. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen."

I have been involved in several baptisms lately. This may have been another one from years ago. This is in the old sancturary of First Methodist Church West Monroe. I am standing and speaking to the church. To my right you see towels on the kneeling rail and maybe an immersion baptistry. I am wearing an open collared shirt - no bow tie. And there in the foreground is one of our youth looking over his shoulder. Was it his baptism? Where is he looking? At his mom, dad, brother, grandparents and friends? What is he thinking about? Following Jesus? The cross before him, and world behind him? Could be. I know this man. He desires to follow Jesus. He desires to be Jesus' disciple.

How about me? Yes, I want to too. How about you? Would you like to see the sick healed, the blind see, and the oppressed go free because of Jesus? I bet you do.

Who are we looking at? The cross before us. The world behind us. I want to follow Jesus.

This a soul we all should know about.

Lea Joyner spent her early years in a logging camp, moving often while her father worked as a timber cutter. At the age of 12, her family settled in Grayson, near her mother's relatives, the McKeithens.
A 1935 Grayson High graduate, she later attended High Point College and was ordained in 1939.
Joyner pastored the Columbia circuit, founded Columbia Heights Methodist Church, and taught school to supplement her income. In 1952, she established Southside Methodist in Monroe, which grew to 2,800 members before her death and was later renamed Lea Joyner Memorial. Ministry ran in the family-she, her cousin Bud, and cousin John all planned to become preachers, though John McKeithen ultimately chose politics and became governor of Louisiana. Following her tragic murder, more than 4,000 people attended her funeral, a testament to the impact she made.
