We get asked a lot, “What is an Anglican?”
There are many ways to answer that question. But sometimes, one of the best ways is simply to look at who has been Anglican.
George Washington and many of America’s Founding Fathers were part of Anglican churches.
John Wesley, Charles Wesley, and George Whitefield—figures central to the Great Awakening and evangelical revival—ministered within the Anglican tradition and were Anglican priests.
Jane Austen and C.S. Lewis were Anglicans whose faith deeply shaped their lives and writings.
And many influential modern evangelical theologians, including John Stott, J.I. Packer, and N.T. Wright, have served or worshiped within Anglican churches.
These men and women came from different times, backgrounds, and theological emphases. But they shared something important: they found a home in the Anglican Church.
So, what is an Anglican?
