This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #17 of attending Calera United Methodist Church...we have FAITH! I know that I have said this before in some other way, but it should be said again. There are just a few of us that attend each Sunday, but the reason that we are still attending is because WE HAVE FAITH! God has kept our church open...well, also tithes and some hard work. We have a long way to go to get back where we once were, but we are not ready to give up on having a UMC in Calera. We believe that we have a lot to offer...mostly to those who have not felt loved by the "church" in the past.
Of course, faith and faithfulness are not the same. I am looking forward to Pastor John's message. The Gospel scripture is the Poor Widow and the Two Small Coins. I like the artist's rendition of the widow on our bulletin. However, she looks awfully young to be a widow. I had imagined more wrinkles, like all the old, rich men standing around her. Anyway, I "have faith" that tomorrow will be a good service...as always. For those of you who want to try out a kind and faithful church, come visit us at 9:30AM!

This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #16 of attending Calera United Methodist Church...we are servants. There was a time...for many decades...that our little church served our community. We have gone through some transitions over the past several years. Now, as part of the Texoma Parish UMC, we are in yet another transition. We love our pastors and look forward to our worship together every week, but we need help. We need more people to join our servanthood. I am reaching out to all of my family and friends, those I know...and those whom I have not yet met. Our congregation invites ALL to worship. We are a Reconciling and Affirming church. That means...we do not judge based on race, s*x, age, size, s*xual orientation, financial status, marital status, IQ, abilities or disabilities...or anything else. We SERVE everyone who needs to be served. Join us Sundays at 9:30AM, then...have plenty time to beat the lunch crowd and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #15 of attending Calera United Methodist Church...we are not perfect. I know that there are people who do not feel comfortable attending church because they do not feel that they are "good enough". You do not have to worry about being good enough to come join us.
I am eager to hear what Terri has to say tomorrow. I am not sure how the two scriptures go together, or if they do...Paul beating himself up for his "sins of the flesh" versus David not killing Saul when he had the chance. I do think I understand what both scriptures have to say about "control". Let's all hear what Terri's understanding is...tomorrow at 9:30AM!

This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #14 of attending Calera United Methodist Church...we have PATIENCE! Our little church has been through so much over the years. However, we have trusted in God to get us through every struggle. We have seen members come and go. We realize that not everyone wants to attend a small, openly affirming church with no band or theatrics. That is OK with us. The handful of worshippers who have remained, continue to believe in the grace and mercy of a loving God. We would like to see more open-minded people in the pews. So, if you are need of love and acceptance, come visit us.
I am really excited about the Prayer Hymn for tomorrow. I Googled "hymns about patience" and found this little gem in our United Methodist Hymnal. It is a good, old gospel, which we have not sung before. I think everyone will like it.
I am also excited to hear Pastor John's message, "Patience, Right Now!" His messages are always meaningful and thoughtful. This title sounds intriguing. If this is something you believe you might need to hear, come join us at 9:30 Sunday morning!

This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #13 of attending Calera United Methodist Church...we love!!! I may have said something similar to this before; I don't know. If so, it bears repeating.
If you come through the doors of our little church and do not feel loved immediately, then we all must have been distracted that Sunday...Oh, a squirrel!
If you sit through our service and do not feel loved before the Closing Hymn, then somebody was not paying attention.
If you walk out the doors and do not feel loved by our congregation, then I apologize. We are still getting accustomed to 9:30AM church. Many weeks we feel a bit rushed. Also, some of us are "outgoing", while others are not. There are few of us, so we do not have a welcoming committee holding the doors open...maybe we should consider it. We do make a point to thank people for visiting and genuinely welcome them to return.
However, if you walk out the doors and do not feel the love of Christ, we need to know. I believe our pastors do a very good job with their messages. Even though we do not have a band...just me...I believe the music is inspirational. Our service, in general, is very open and "hands on". I do not know of anyone who has attended who has not felt loved.
Come on! Come visit us...and prove me wrong!

This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #12 of attending Calera United Methodist Church...freedom of speech. When I saw the title for our message, there was a song that I simply could not get out of my head. Tomorrow we will sing "Joy to the World", not the United Methodist Hymnal version...thus, I changed the wording from "Opening Hymn" to "Opening Song". We will be singing the Three Dog Night version. Most would say it is not a hymn. I do not argue that it is. Some of the lyrics sound a little sinful...are we not all sinners? To me the lyrics are honest...and totally full of joy! I could not help myself. Hopefully, the congregation will enjoy it. If you would like to come hang out with some joyful sinners on a Sunday morning, meet us tomorrow at 9:30AM.

Sorry for the late post. I am having technical difficulties. This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #11 of attending Calera United METHODIST CHURCH...original music. We will be singing my original music, "Cat Vomit", actually titled "God, Gimme a Break". It is one of our favorites. If you need a good giggle on Sunday morning, come visit us at 9:30AM, then have the rest of the Sabbath to enjoy God's beautiful earth!

This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #10 of attending Calera United Methodist Church..."Surely the Presence of the Lord is in this Place". We can feel His mighty power and His grace. We can hear the brush of angels' wings. We see glory on each face. Surely, the presence of the Lord is in this place.
This week we will hear about the gift of the Holy Spirit that Christ left with his disciples...and with us...when he returned to His Father. I promise that the presence of the Holy Spirit is in our little church! It is on the face of all of our members. It is in the heart of the entire Texoma Parish. If anyone is in need of a place to worship without pressure, without judgement, without stress...come give us a chance. We may be small, but we are mighty with the power of the Holy Spirit! Also...speaking in tongues is not required...but openly accepted.

This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #9 of attending Calera United Methodist Church...we are MOTHERING! I cannot count how many Children of God...young and old...our little church has cared for over the years. If you are need of a place to worship without judgement...if you need Prayer Soldiers...if you just need to hear The Word, without hype or propaganda...we are the church for you!
Happy Mother's Day to our members...Lorrie Compton, Angie Bauer, Myrna Raile, and Teresa Casita. You guys are the greatest!

This is the order of worship for tomorrow. Perk #8 of attending Calera United Methodist Church...we are FILLED with the Holy Spirit. I know that I have probably said this before, but it is worth saying again. Every member of our congregation exudes the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not haughty about it. We do not dance in the aisles or speak in tongues. We just live, love and pray. We invite anyone who is need of the saving grace of our Holy Trinity to join us. This Sunday marks the day that Jesus ascended and left his disciples with the Great Comforter. I cannot wait to hear what Terri has to say about the "Gift of the Paraclete"! Worship begins at 9:30AM. That leaves the entire Sunday for living life and loving our God!
