Steve Harvey told a story about buying a car when he was young. His old car broke down and he had it up on concrete blocks in the driveway. He saw a newer model car that he wanted. He prayed and believed that he would get that car. He told his mom that he was going to get that car. But he never did. His mom saw him looking sad and asked what was wrong. He told her that he is trying hard to get his new car but nothing is working out. She told him that he will never get the new car until he make room for it. He thought that was a crazy thing to say. He dwelled on that statement for days. Then one day, he understood what she meant. He called his friend to help him tow the old car away. He even got some money for selling the old car for scrap. He swept up the leaves and trash that accumulated under the car. The driveway was clean. He had made room physically-not just mentally. And guess what happened a few weeks later? He got the car he wanted.
As Christians, we have been told to believe that if we pray-God will give it to us. Maybe. You see, God is a good parent and He will not give us what we have not made room for. God will not give us what we can not handle mentally, financially, socially, emotionally or physically. If you have prayed in faith and have yet to receive what you prayed for-ask yourself if you have made room.
Reflection: Can you handle what you are asking God for?
And if the answer is no. Pray and ask God to increase your capacity to handle what you are praying for- so that the desire of your heart want turn into a nightmare.
