Good Friday, Family. Today I have a quick thank you for everyone! As you know this summer has been very busy around here. And as the Elders seek God's direction for the fall, we thank you for praying for us as we seek the Lord's will as He continues to build His Church at GLCC.
• Continue to pray for our search committee as we ask the Lord to guide us to our next Family Ministry Pastor. Our committee consists of Dave Smith-chairman, Bradford Sample-Elder representative, Joe Pomorski-Deacon representative and parent, Rebecca Boverhof-parent, Lisa Jarsma-Children's Ministry worker and parent, Tim Kennedy-Youth Ministry worker and parent, and me. We have posted our search on ministry staffing websites along with colleges.
• Also, thank you for filling out our Fall Ministry Discipleship Survey. Your responses were very helpful as we seek the best ways to disciple our church family. Next week we'll share more about the results, but a couple of quick notes. We sensed great unity and anticipation from your feedback. We are thankful for what the Lord is doing in our midst. Although we asked questions about possible changes, don't expect any major changes to our service times, etc. Your responses also confirmed our need for a Children's Ministry Director to work alongside our Family Ministry Pastor. Please be in prayer as we seek the Lord's direction for both. Next week we'll share more regarding the results and our plans to help us all grow in Grace together.
Looking forward to worshipping with you Sunday,
Pastor Mark

Good Friday, Family! As summer winds down, I hope you have made some time to enjoy God's creation! Gale and I spent some time on the beach recently resulting in some refreshing relaxation.

As I write this I feel the anxiety rising up again with a long list of "things to do." God, our Creator and Sustainer, knew we were built to need rest which is why the sabbath principle runs through the scripture. As the old saying goes, "if we don't "come apart" from our normal routines, we will come apart." Part of coming apart for rest is intentionally taking time for fellowship and worship. I look forward to seeing you Sunday as we "come apart" together.

Gathering for worship and relationship results in more good stuff for us.

A recent secular Harvard and Duke study shows that participating in religion provides a 69:1 lowering of the rate of delinquency and crime. That's a huge contrast!
This study also showed feelings of social support like generosity, volunteering, and charitable giving increased 22:1 in comparison to those who did not participate in religious activity.
Substance abuse was lower 43:1.
And marital and family stability increased 19:1.

Now, we don't have details on what religion or how religious these participants were. But we know seeking God and following His path will improve our lives. He knew what He was doing when He designed us. Following Him is truly life at its best.

May your journey of following Him be filled with growth and joy!

Nehemiah 8:10
For the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Good Friday, Family! I hope you were able to join us last Sunday as we celebrated God's blessings in providing us with our new and remodeled building! What a great service of thanking God and so many who were part of God's blessing. Also, what a great message by Mark Lilly encouraging and challenging us to keep God our top priority. As we dedicated the building to be used by God, we also dedicate ourselves to be used by Him as well.

This Sunday we will spend time in worship, the Word, and remembering what God has done with communion. We will also hear from the Davidson family, the partners we work with during our Project Jesus trips. God has raised up this unique ministry to provide God's Word through public schools in South America and Central America!

Sometimes the greatest challenge to my joy is a narrow focus on me, myself, and I right now. When I see what God is doing in other people's lives and around the world, my eyes are lifted off myself and my troubles, which are very real by the way. Instead, I need to see God at work in incredible ways reminding me that I follow the same God, even though He may be working in a different way in my life right now. Come join me Sunday as we lift our eyes to the Cross, God's Word, and God's work in the world. I am confident God will use your time to lift your heart as well. In Colossians, Paul reminds us-

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.

Needing a refocus from time to time as well,
Pastor Mark
