Thank you to everyone who volunteered today to help clean up the flower beds! Your hard work and dedication made a big difference, and the church grounds look wonderful because of your efforts.

We truly appreciate everyone who took the time to serve and help beautify our church. Thank you!

As part of COACB’s spotlight on local churches, here is the historic Claridon ME Church in Claridon, Ohio.

For generations, churches like this have served as the heart of small communities where families gathered to worship, pray, encourage one another, and seek God through every season of life. These walls have witnessed countless sermons, hymns, weddings, funerals, and moments of faith that helped shape the community around them.

The Claridon ME Church continues that legacy today with worship service on Sundays at 9:15 AM followed by Sunday School at 10:30 AM. The pastor is Terry Burkhardt.

This photograph was captured on Ilford 400 film using a vintage Yashica TLR camera, a fitting choice for a place filled with so much history and character. Some places deserve to be remembered in a timeless way.

January 15 – What is believed to have been the first organized church services in Marion County were held in 1820 when the Jacob Aye family provided a place of worship in their cabin located east of what is now Claridon. In 1823, a small Methodist Episcopal congregation erected a hewn log building northeast of Claridon and named it the “English Chapel” in reference to the many settlers in the area who had immigrated from England. The congregation continued to grow to 68 members in 1855 necessitating a larger building to be erected. Thirty years later, in 1885, the need for an even greater capacity center was apparent resulting in the construction of another building at the eastern edge of Claridon. It is still in use by the Claridon Global Methodist congregation which celebrated its 200th year of worship and service in 2020.
