The Caledonia Gathering

The Caledonia Gathering The Caledonia Gathering is a Christian church made up of all sorts of people from the Caledonia, Middleville, Kentwood, Wayland, Alto, and Cutlerville regions.

While we do gather on Sundays in a larger group for fellowship and worship, our main focus as a church is 'house gatherings.' Groups of all ages and backgrounds within our church meet consistently throughout the month to share each others' lives, hopes, dreams, and sorrows. We read scripture, we pray, and we fellowship. It's simple, but a beautiful expression of what Jesus Christ's followers are called to do! Please feel free to contact us and visit! We are excited to welcome you.

Most of us live distracted.
Numbed out.
Overstimulated.
Always chasing the next thing.

We avoid thinking about death.
About purpose.
About what actually matters.

But eventually life forces the question:
“What am I running toward?”

Because every life is headed somewhere.
Some of us are sleeping thinking we still have time.
Some of us are exhausted from sprinting toward things that won’t save us.

Jesus doesn’t invite people to pretend they’re perfect.
He invites tired, distracted people to wake up and come home.

End well.
Not famous.
Not impressive.
Not endlessly entertained.
Just faithful.

Maybe this is your wake-up call

Have you ever felt spiritually asleep?
No pressure. No perfect answers. Just curious.

We are profoundly hungry.
We hunger for peace.
For security.
For joy.
For comfort.
For more.
But sometimes our hunger trains us
to consume other people.
Someone loses family time
because of our urgency.
Someone works harder
so we can have convenience faster.
The scary part?
Most of us don’t even mean to do it.
When self-interest rules the heart,
it always costs somebody else something.
The church gets this wrong too.
We can become so obsessed with results, growth, influence, or success
that we forget people are not products.
Maybe the problem isn’t that humanity is hungry.
Maybe it’s what we keep trying to feed ourselves with.
Jesus doesn’t feed his hunger with other people’s lives.
He gives his life away for other people.
So start small.
Slow down.
Notice people again.
Choose generosity over consumption.
Ask God to reshape what your heart is hungry for.

People aren't the problem, the way we're living is.
Life starts to feel like a competition...

Who's ahead?
Who's behind?
Who's winning??

Comparison turns into envy... and envy turns people into obstacles.
We protect, prove, and keep score instead of actually knowing each other.

And that's how neighbors start to feel like enemies.

This isn't how we were made to live.
Jesus taught something completely different: love God, and love your neighbor as yourself.

The one who made you, made you for real community, with Him and with the people around you.

We believe that Jesus changes how you live and love.
And if you're figuring that out right now...
you belong here too.

It doesn't actually fix anything. It just echoes back louder.
And if we're honest, that way of living gets exhausting.
But we're not meant to just drift through life or react to everything around us.
We're meant to actually know the one who made us.
To see what's good.
To recognize what's true.
To live from something deeper than our own ups and downs.
Because there's another way to show up in the world.
Not just reflecting ourselves.
To reflect something better.
Something steady.
Something good, that doesn't depend on how we're feeling that day.
Because when that starts to happen, you're not just echoing yourself anymore.
You start reflecting Jesus.

Life isn’t random or empty. It has a center, the God who created everything and still holds it together.
He invites us into a way of living that’s bigger than ourselves:
to love Him, to love people, and to care for what we’ve been given.
That means your life, your work, your effort, even your ordinary days, has real purpose.
Jesus doesn’t just offer ideas. When you trust Him, He gives your life meaning,
not just eventually, but right now.
So what you do each day isn’t just for you.
It matters beyond you.
It’s part of something lasting, something eternal.
And if you’ve ever felt like your life should mean more than just getting through the day…
Maybe its worth asking where that feeling comes from.

We grind for security, for the future… for “more.”
But what are you actually trying to gain?

We treat life like an investment, like if we do enough, we’ll finally have extra.
But that “extra” never really lasts.

At some point, everything we chase slips out of our hands.

So what’s the point of running after more?

Maybe life isn’t about gaining surplus,
but receiving what’s already here.

Because in the end, you don’t keep what you earn…
you only live what you’re given.

The first people at the empty tomb weren’t confident or certain.
They were confused. Curious. Trying to make sense of it.
And somehow… belief started there.
So if you’re not sure what you believe, you’re not alone.
But it’s worth asking:
what if it’s actually true?

Just a few anonymous notes that we found posted around our new space: “remember, God is with you” and “remember, God loves you no matter what” whoever wrote these, thank you for these important reminders!
