A friend of mine, who also happens to be an apologist, told me something the other day that I thought was so powerful I had to share it.
She explained that when Jesus went into the Temple with a whip, overturning the tables and driving out the sheep and cattle, it wasn’t as quick or impulsive as it might sound. He didn’t just storm in, lose His temper, and throw a fit. When we look at the gospels together, we notice something important. John 2:15 says that He made a whip of cords. And here’s the fascinating part: braiding a whip like that could take up to a week.
That means Jesus saw the corruption happening in His Father’s house, left, and took the time to braid a whip. He sat with His anger. He processed it. He “made sure” it was righteous, not reactionary. He “cooled off,” ( or at least gave us an example of doing so) He reflected, and then—when the time was right—He went back in, fully justified, and demonstrated His zeal for God’s house.
I love this. It confirms something deep in me: that my anger over complementarian theology and the abuse happening in the church is not misplaced—it’s righteous.
Before I ever made this page, I studied. I wrestled. I talked to friends and my husband. I prayed and searched my heart. And once I realized this anger is truly righteous anger, I braided my own whip, so to speak, and began this work—exposing the lie to the best of my ability.
That’s what this page is about. You’re not going to find some meek, timid church mouse here who tiptoes around abusers so they won’t get offended. I’m not here to play games. I’m not here to debate whether complementarian doctrine is biblical—it isn’t. It’s abusive. It’s false. It’s sin.
What you’ll find here is a whip of cords aimed at the sin rotting the body of Christ. I will speak boldly. I will not be bullied by comps who want to chain me back up. I’ll leave the long, detailed debates to scholars who fight on that level, but I will not be silent.
I will keep studying and learning for the rest of my life—but what you will always see here is boldness and fire.
I am done pretending this is a “small issue.” I am done pretending spiritual abuse is just “sanctification” or “holiness.” It is not. It is gross. It is sin. And it is not “God’s design.”
Yes, I know some people think I’m overreacting. Let me assure you—I am not. I have lived through this. I’ve been belittled, dismissed, and spiritually abused more than I can even describe here. And I am done. I refuse to let my daughters grow up in a world where men treat them like second-class citizens simply because they are female. I will do whatever it takes to spread the truth.
Maybe I’m just one voice in a vast ocean, but I will not sit quietly while the church pumps out this poison. I will not sit quietly while men like Doug Wilson strip women of the freedom God has already given us.
Women, hear me: we are not second-class citizens. We are not “less than.” We are created in the image of God, powerful and unique. And for centuries, men have feared that strength, doing everything they can to suppress it—no more. I’m done letting them.
Let’s stop fearing what man can do to us, and instead make them fear what God will do through us.
