Resurrection Lutheran Church The Resurrection Changes Everything! Lutheran Church Missouri Synod

10/13/2026

One of the greatest fears Christian parents face is watching their children walk away from the faith.
We bring them to church. We teach them to pray. We tell them about Jesus. But as they grow older, some choose a different path.

And we begin to wonder: Did I do something wrong? Did I fail them?
Here's the good news: God has not abandoned you or your children.

Jesus Christ gave His body on the cross to bear our sins and rose from the grave to redeem us. Our hope rests not in perfect parenting, but in God's grace and His continuing call to repentance and faith.
Even when our children wander, we can entrust them to the mercy of their heavenly Father and continue praying for their return.

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." — Proverbs 22:6
But what happens when children raised in faithful Christian homes walk away from the church?
Did their parents fail? Did God's promise fail?

The Hebrew word translated "train" in Proverbs 22:6 is ḥānak, a word associated with dedication. It's also connected to the word Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Dedication.

That connection invites us to consider what it means to dedicate our children to the Lord.

Christian parenting isn't a contract that guarantees a particular outcome. It's a calling to entrust our children to the God who loves them, pursues them, and sent His Son Jesus Christ to redeem them.
Our confidence isn't in our perfect parenting. It's in the mercy and faithfulness of our Savior.

Every parent wants to get it right. We want to raise children who are healthy, successful, and faithful. But what happens when we fall short? What happens when our children make choices we never expected?

The good news is that our children's salvation doesn't depend on our ability to be perfect parents.
Jesus Christ took on human flesh, carried our sins to the cross, and rose from the grave to redeem us. Our hope isn't found in successful parenting, but in a faithful Savior.

We are called to raise our children in the faith, but ultimately, we entrust them to the heavenly Father who loves them even more than we do.

Jesus claimed the authority to forgive sins. What does that tell us about who he is? This excerpt explores why his words call for a deeper response than simply admiring his moral teaching.

We often want a little spirituality added to our busy lives. But Jesus gives us something far greater: life for our spirits, satisfaction for our souls, and forgiveness for our sins. He gives himself to us—even his body and blood in Holy Communion.
