This week, join us in praying for our Church Family of the Week, Gary and Kathy Davis!

Gary and Kathy have been part of the Gordon Heights family for two years, faithfully making the drive from Leesburg each week to worship with us.

When asked what brought them to Gordon Heights, their answer was especially sweet; William and Lesley. But William and Lesley aren’t just their pastor and pastor’s wife; they’re also their son-in-law and daughter. Gary and Kathy shared what a blessing it has been to watch them grow in the Lord over the years and now to sit under William’s leadership as their pastor.

They love the love and friendliness they have found at Gordon Heights, but most of all, they love that we are a praying church family. They have also grown to love their Sunday School classes and the opportunity to get to know their church family on a more personal level.

Gary and Kathy enjoy fishing, hunting, and working on the farm, and they shared how important they believe fellowship is for both our ladies and our men. They are thankful to have found that fellowship here at Gordon Heights.

We are so thankful God brought the Davis family to GHBC! This week, let’s be intentional about covering Gary and Kathy in prayer for their family, their work, their walk with the Lord, and for God to continue using them for His glory.

The King Who Came to Serve
Isaiah 42:1–9

The King we are waiting for is not like the kings of this world. He came not to be served, but to serve. He brings justice, hope, healing, and light to a world in need of Him.

The King is coming. Are you ready?

Spiritual warfare is at a high right now, and we need to be very careful that we aren’t helping the enemy do his work. If we are gossiping, criticizing one another, constantly critiquing those in leadership, or tearing people down behind closed doors, then we need to check our own hearts and motives. And that includes sitting and listening while someone else tears down our church or people within our church. Be on guard against those conversations too. Satan loves to use loose lips to plant small seeds of discord, division, doubt, and offense and if we aren’t careful, we can give those seeds a place to grow. We cannot say we are praying for our church while our words or the conversations we willingly entertain are working against the very people we claim to be praying for. If we want to see this battle won, it’s time to stop talking about each other and start praying for each other. Pray for your church. Pray for the members. Pray for those serving and leading. Pray for your pastor. Our church doesn’t need more critics. It needs more prayer warriors. Guard your heart. Guard your ears. Guard your words. And above all, pray.

Church Members, question for YOU:
If everybody at church followed your example, would Gordon Heights Baptist Church become more like the church Jesus has called us to be?

What would our church look like?

If everyone attended worship as faithfully as you do, would the church be full?
If everyone prayed as much as you do, would we be a praying church?
If everyone served as much as you do, would ministries have enough workers?
If everyone gave like you do, could the church accomplish its mission?
If everyone invited people to church like you do, would we be reaching new people?
If everyone shared the gospel like you do, would people be coming to Christ?
If everyone encouraged others the way you do, would our church be stronger?
If everyone handled disagreements like you do, would there be unity?
If everyone supported the ministry like you do, would our church move forward?
If everyone followed Jesus with the same commitment they see in you, what kind of church would we become?

Paul said:

“Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 11:1

What example are you setting for others to follow?
