🪶 SUNDAY PREVIEW - MAY 31, 2026 🪶

Jesus promised his followers that they would face tribulation in this world. Tribulation is not a possibility; it is a guarantee. The question is: Are you running from it or toward it?

This Sunday we will dive back into our ongoing study in the book of Acts, following the death of Herod. This event gave the early church some much needed relief after relentless waves of persecution. Our inclination would be to try to hold onto this moment of peace for as long as possible and fight for our own self-preservation. But not God. In Acts 13, he sends his people right back into it.

This is the confounding grace of God's mission. He runs into tribulation, seeking those lost in the darkness and rescuing them into his marvelous light. And as those who have been saved by such grace, we are now called to follow him in that mission with the same reckless abandon, running toward our opposition with all boldness and humility, proclaiming the good news we have found in Jesus.

Yes, in this world you will have tribulation. But take heart: Your Savior Jesus has already overcome it. And if you follow him into it, you can be sure that he will have plenty of good work for you to do.

Join us this Sunday to discover how you can follow God in his mission to the ends of the earth.

As we learned last week, scripture is good for training in righteousness, which points us to Jesus as the perfect image we were made to reflect. But when our foot hits the pavement on Monday, what does chasing righteousness look like? How do we look like Jesus in the everyday moments and relationships of life?

We are going to spend a little time with Paul in his letter to the Galatians this Sunday to help us gain a framework for thinking about the answer to the very practical question: How do I chase righteousness?

See you Sunday. You belong here.

“You do not become physically fit with inconsistent exercise, and you cannot become spiritually fit if you are not regularly in God's Word. Righteousness and good works are trained disciplines that come about by faithfully going back to scripture again and again."

In his book Reverberation, Jonathan Leeman writes, "All of us are imaging machines. We learn by copying, we copy what we love, and then we become like those things and project them. That's why friends and communities of people act like one another. They love the affirmation they receive from being included in the group. So they begin listening to the same music, wearing the same clothes, mimicking one another's speech patterns, adopting similar sets of moral standards, and more. God designed us this way. The bad news is that, beginning with the fall, we began imaging one another instead of God. The good news is that, with the coming of God's Son, we can now behold a man who is the perfect image of God."

We copy what we love. What does the evidence of your life demonstrate what you love?

Join us this Sunday as we discover how God's living word shapes us today.

Why do you read the Bible? To learn something new about God? To draw closer to him? To get inspiration, wisdom, or hope for whatever you are facing in life?

These are all great motivations! But let me ask you: When was the last time you read the Bible with the purpose of being shown where you are wrong?

In 2 Timothy 3:16, the apostle Paul says that all scripture is good for reproof and correction. We read the Bible, but it reads us too. We are placed under its light, exposing how we are not what we should be -- even in ways we never knew.

That kind of scrutiny scares us. I'm sure many of you have unpleasant memories of being rebuked in the past. Maybe you felt shamed or condemned. Maybe you were responded to with cruelty and vengeance. With such experiences in our past, it's no wonder we want to hide our flaws and failures!

But, as we will see this Sunday, God's heart in his reproach is radically different. His rebukes are for our protection. His reproofs lead us to life. His corrections restore us to who he made us to be.

Join us this Sunday as we discover how God's living word shapes us today.

“On your death bed, you will not ask to listen to another Joe Rogan podcast speculating about whether there is really life after death. You will ask for the infallible Word of God to remind you that on the last day the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised.”
