This week, we’re excited to spotlight Sydney Covington, our teen teacher on Sunday mornings and Theater Director.

Sydney has been part of the Mt. Pleasant family for 26 years, after her parents began attending when she was just 2 years old.

One of the things she enjoys most about our church family is the relationships that have been built over the years—relationships she describes as encouraging, nonjudgmental, and lifelong. One of her favorite church traditions is church camp, where she enjoys disconnecting from the world and spending meaningful time with her church family.

📖 Favorite Bible Verse: John 13:34
Sydney loves this verse because it gives such a clear example of the kind of love Jesus wants us to show to the world.

🎶 Favorite Hymn:
“It Is Well”

Over the years, Sydney has served Mt. Pleasant in many ways, including as a Sunday School teacher, in the nursery, in the choir, and as a theatre director.

Something you may not know about Sydney is that she is an avid reader—she read 75 books last year!

Outside of church, Sydney works as a Pre-K Paraprofessional. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, reading, and crocheting.

This week, we’re excited to spotlight our pastor, Bro. Joshua Drye!

Joshua has been part of the Mt. Pleasant family for almost two years. He came to Mt. Pleasant after being led by the Lord and called by the people of Mt. Pleasant to serve as pastor.

One of the things he enjoys most about our church family is “seeing people genuinely striving together to serve the Lord” and the authentic friendships that have formed along the way. One of his most meaningful memories is the welcome he received from the church when he accepted the call to become our pastor.

📖 Favorite Bible Verse: Joshua 24:15
This verse has held a special place in his heart since childhood. His Papaw would ask him, “What did Joshua say?” and he would answer, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” It is the first Bible verse he remembers learning and one he still thinks about daily.

🎶 Favorite Hymns:
“Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” “Rock of Ages,” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”

Something you may not know about Bro. Joshua is that speaking in front of crowds is extremely uncomfortable for him—even after doing it for more than 20 years. He says, “Anytime you see me speaking to a group, it’s an active work of God in me.”

Outside of church, Joshua works as an Administrative Assistant and most enjoys spending time with his wife and children. No matter what they are doing, he says his time with them is deeply cherished.

We are thankful for Bro. Joshua, his family, and his service to the Lord here at Mt. Pleasant!
