Dealing with the “If Onlys”

If only I’d encouraged him to go to the doctor sooner. If only they’d stayed home that night. If only I’d known what to do. Feelings of regret are common after the loss of a loved one. But, left unchecked, they can lead to guilt and shame, which can complicate your grief and slow the healing process. The good news is you don’t have to be stuck in a place of regret and guilt.

This week’s exercises and video will help you find freedom from those troubling thoughts: You’ll discover:

The importance of challenging your “if onlys.”
Better things to focus your thoughts on.
God’s response to your regrets.

Anger
When it All Seems So Unfair

Why is this happening to me, God? I just want my life to go back to the way it was. I don’t deserve this.

Anger is a common part of grief, but God understands. He wants you to come to Him with your anger and questions. His arms are open to receive you, and he wants to give you a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Learning how to process your anger in a healthy way is important. This week’s video and Step by Step exercises will help you to do that. You’ll learn:

Anger can give you energy to make needed changes.

Anger is powerful, but God can help you manage it.

Forgiveness is important for you and your relationships.

Loneliness and Sadness
Life After Your Loss

The phone rings, and for a brief moment you think it might be your loved one. Friends and family invite you out, but it’s easier to stay home than wear a smile you don’t feel. The absence of your loved one stings in a million ways, but there are things you can do that will help soothe the pain.

In this weeks video and Step by Step exercises you’ll discover that:

Sadness can slow you down to assess where you’re struggling and what might help.

Remembering and Honoring

As you think about your life, moving forward in a healthy way doesn’t mean forgetting your loved one. Quite the opposite. Healing includes remembering your loved one and honoring the memory by reflecting on meaningful moments you shared together. And it also involves honoring your loved one by building on the lessons you learned from him or her to bless other people.

Through this video and exercises, you’ll see that moving forward with your life can include:

“Legacy projects” that bless others and honor your loved one.

Preserving memories and using lessons you’ve learned from your loved one.

Pursuing interests or skills, which renews your sense of purpose.
