A prayer of remembrance
9-11 20th Anniversary Prayer
Let us pray: “Gracious Lord, there are seminal events in the life of every nation which leave an everlasting mark on a country’s character; 9-11 was such a day for our beloved republic. In one, calamitous moment, sadistic evil collided with virtuous valor as burning debris rained downward while courageous responders ascended heavenward.
Almighty God, may we never forget that fateful day, when the lives of thousands were cut-short as families, cities, our nation, and even the world were forever changed. Twenty long years have since past and we pray, dear Lord, that You give us sure strength and commitment to follow through on the promise cemented into the hearts of every American that day, to root-out and destroy the cancerous evil of terrorism wherever we might find it.
With the sting of that first, tragic blow still fresh in our hearts, especially for those who continue to grieve the loss of their loved ones, we ask that you continue to lift us up with Your Spirit for the unfinished task ahead of us. May You strengthen us with Your power, guide us with Your truth, and uphold us with Your mighty hand as we pick-up the torch dropped that day by those brave men and women who sacrificially gave their last, fullest measure of devotion so that others might live.
Finally, dear Lord, on this, so aptly named “Patriot’s Day” may we each strive to follow that upward climb of the heroes that perished at the Twin Towers, in the Pentagon, and in that field outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania so that one day we many stand beside them before Your presence and hear you proclaim, “Well done, thou good and faithful First Responder – enter into your rest.”
All this we pray in your Holy and Precious Name - AMEN”
