At Summer GOkids week 4, we learned about how Jesus calmed a storm. This Bible story is found in the book of Mark 4:35-41. The disciples (Jesus’ friends) found themselves in a scary situation, but they weren’t alone. Jesus was with them. He was lying down, taking a well-deserved rest. In their frantic response to the storm, they woke Jesus out of their fear. He calmed the storm with just His words. Then He reminded them that they didn’t need to fear. The weather wasn’t the only thing that was calm. Jesus was calm. He was the picture of peace. And the lesson we learned is that Jesus gives us peace in the midst of chaos.
For our craft, we embraced the wind a storm can bring by decorating wind chimes.
We made "fishy chaos cups" for our snack.
At game time, we played "Storm Tag". This is a game of tag that involved a spritz of rain and a clap of thunder!
Our group dress up award went to the Rad Racoon crew for "The Greenest Team Award" (the crew who was most dressed for nature), and our special awards went to Reuben for the "Most Camo Award" and to Toula and Athena for the "Fanciest Flower Award".

In week 3 of Summer GOkids, we learned that Jesus saves us from the chaos we create because Jesus is our Savior in the midst of chaos. This is a truth that we want our kids to know and believe and choose. We learned about a time that a sinful woman was brought to Jesus. The religious leaders were waiting for His response as they challenged Him to dole out her punishment. Jesus’ response was peaceful. He asked them to cast the first stone in her consequence if they themselves were without sin. They sheepishly backed away. In that moment, Jesus showed his grace. He showed His forgiveness. And He showed His love by encouraging the woman to move away from her life of sin. He shows us all of those things as well. He saves us from our sin!
For our craft, we decorated camping patches and added them to our own drawstring bags, perfect for hiking and for carrying around the stuffed animals who joined us at camp this week.
We made "bear bath chaos cups" for our snack.
At game time, we played "Outdoor Survival School". Players worked together to act out different camping actions and skills to survive in the woods and escape from the bear!
Our dress up theme was wild! Kids could dress as their favorite animal or bring a stuffed animal. Students who dressed as a cat or brought a stuffed cat (including all small cats and big cats like tigers) won the group award for "Humongous Herd Award" (the majority of campers and stuffed animals were in the cat family), and we had 8 different individuals awarded with the "Original Beast Award" for being the only camper to dress up as that animal or to bring that kind of stuffed animal.

Our Summer GOkids topic for day two was how Jesus is our Provider in the midst of chaos. There’s a time in the Bible He was hurting from the loss of a friend, and although He craved quiet time alone, the crowds were relentless. Instead of turning them away, He felt compassion on them. He healed them. He taught them. He fed them. We can remind our children (and ourselves) that even if things are dark and dismal, Jesus provides.
For our craft, we made our own camping lanterns to help us shine our light!
For our snack, we made our own delicious S'mores Trail Mix.
At game time, we played "Set Up Camp". Players divided into 2 teams and raced to gather all of their camping supplies.
Our dress up theme this week was Campers or Glampers, where everyone got to dress in the way they most like to camp. The Rad Raccoons won the "Who Wore It More" award for being the cabin crew who had the biggest dress up turn out with the most Campers and Glampers, Gabe won the Campiest Award for being the most over-the-top, geared-out Camper, and Toula won the Glampiest Award for being the fanciest and glampiest of the Glampers.

As we prepare for the final Summer GOkids of the 2026 season, we're looking back on some of the great fun we've had together at Camp Chaos!
On June 11, we had a great first day of Camp Chaos together!
We learned that Jesus is our Strength in the midst of chaos. We heard a Bible story about a wise and a foolish builder in from Matthew 7. Matthew 7:24 says, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
In this parable, Jesus warned us about the danger of building our lives on the merits of our own efforts, and described how the firm foundation of His teaching enables us to stand strong in times of chaos.
For our craft, we painted rocks to remind us that Jesus is our solid rock and firm foundation.
We made tent topplers for our snack: Kids build their own delicious “tent” with graham crackers, frosting, and candy.
At game time, we played Firm Foundation. Players worked to create the most stable tower of cups to withstand the coming storm!
The "Perky Possum" Cabin Crew won the award for dressing up to look most prepared for a hike, and Anna won the Junior Camp Counselor Award for being the camper who looked most likely to be a camp counselor one day.
