In this message Pastor Brian explores Acts 17:1–15 and shows how the gospel does not create chaos but exposes the disorder already caused by sin and begins restoring what God designed to be good. As Paul clearly proclaims Jesus as King, the message produces real responses: some resist it, some examine it carefully, and some receive it in faith. This sermon calls listeners to see that the gospel never leaves anyone neutral and invites each person to respond with discernment, faithfulness, and surrender as God continues His unstoppable work of setting things right

Our 2026 reading plan follows the New Testament, covering one Gospel each quarter and moving chronologically through Acts and the Letters one chapter a day. Every chapter in the New Testament will be covered during the course of one year.

Our reading plan expects believers to read one chapter a day for five days each week, with an allowance for weekends off. The two off days a week are built in so that you can catch up on days when you’re unable to read. With a traditional reading plan of four to five chapters a day, unread chapters can begin to pile up, forcing you to skip entire sections to get back on schedule. It reduces Bible reading to a system of box checking instead of a time to hear from God. The required reading also makes it difficult to sit and reflect on what you’ve read for that day.

With that understanding, we encourage believers to digest more of the Word by reading less and by keeping a HEAR journal. To find out more about completing a HEAR journal, visit FBCByram.org/Word. Also, you can find a HEAR journal blank template below if you’d like to save it or replicate it.

The world isn't being turned upside down by the gospel—it's being turned RIGHT SIDE UP. In Acts 17, Paul and Silas faced fierce opposition for proclaiming Jesus as King. Why? Because the gospel doesn't create chaos; it exposes the disorder sin has already created and begins restoring God's original design.

Here's what's powerful: when the gospel is clearly proclaimed, no one stays neutral. Some resist it. Some examine it with eager hearts like the Bereans, searching Scripture daily. Some believe it and are transformed. But everyone responds.

The question for us today is simple: How will YOU respond? If you're a believer, are you living faithfully even when clarity brings conflict? If you haven't surrendered to Jesus yet, today is your moment. He lived the life you couldn't live, died the death your sin deserved, and rose again to make you new. Neutrality is no longer an option when you've heard the truth clearly.

Join us as we continue our journey through Acts and discover how God's unstoppable gospel is still turning the world right side up.

We like to plan our lives, especially our spiritual growth, but Scripture reminds us that God rarely follows our script. Acts 16 shows how faithful obedience can lead not to comfort, but to opposition, and how worship in the darkest moments becomes a powerful witness. What looks like interruption or failure may actually be God advancing His mission in unseen ways. When we stop trying to write the story ourselves and trust Jesus instead, God begins to redeem our suffering and transform lives for His glory.

We all start the new year with plans, resolutions, and scripts for how we think God should work. But Acts 16 reminds us that God's best work often happens in ways we'd never write ourselves.

Paul and Silas were faithful, obedient, and doing exactly what God called them to do—yet they ended up beaten and imprisoned. But in that dark prison cell, at midnight, they chose worship over complaint. Their chains fell, a jailer's life was transformed, and the gospel advanced in ways they never could have planned.

What if the year that changes you most isn't the one that goes according to plan, but the one where you trust God when it doesn't? Your small acts of faithfulness today may be setting off a chain reaction of gospel impact you can't see yet. God advances His mission in ways we would never script—and that's exactly why we can trust Him.
