Margaret May Marsh - known to family and friends as "Peggy" was called home on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the age of 94, at the McKinley Care facility in Anchorage, Alaska. Peggy, daughter of Earl & Mary Garrett was born September, 25, 1931 in Flint, Michigan.
Peggy was energetic & quick-witted she was in her glory when she could get people to laugh. She was gifted artistically and loved creating clothes, decorating cakes, arranging flowers and doing interior decorating. She had musical abilities having played the trombone in the marching band for Flint Central High School. She also played the organ throughout her ministry.
In August of 1949 Peggy had a life changing experience. She attended a Gospel preaching church and for the first time heard God’s simple plan of salvation. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior becoming “born again" by faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ. She was now assured of a home in heaven as promised in John 3:15-18. She was so excited about her new found faith she wanted to share the Gospel with anyone who would listen. She became active in a local church youth program and sang in the choir. It was at Kersley Park Evangelical United Brethren church that she met Richard “Dick” Marsh. They began to date, fell in love, and got married September 23, 1950.
The Korean War was in full swing and knowing he’d be drafted Dick enlisted in the Navy Sea Bees for a four year hitch in multiple duty stations in the Pacific. While Dick served his country, Peggy worked at AC Spark Plug factory in Flint. It was during this time that Kenneth Richard Marsh was born on August 13, 1951. When Dick was discharged he came home to find his wife had learned to drive, bought a two bedroom home and furnished it as well as purchasing property in Grand Blanc where they built a new three bedroom home. While working for Perry Printing, Peggy learned of a mother who was putting her children up for adoption. She went to the home and brought three year old Janet Lynn home, who was adopted into the Marsh family.
While serving at Bethany Baptist Church in Grand Blanc God called her and Dick to the mission field of Alaska. In 1964 they enrolled in Pillsbury Baptist Bible College of Owatonna, Minnesota, graduating in 1966. They were accepted by Baptist Mid-Missions, raised support in two years, were commissioned by their home church and left for Anchor Point, Alaska in 1968 where they first served. During that time they adopted four day old David Earl Marsh. After their first furlough they assisted Berean Baptist Church on Kodiak Island to become self supporting in 1975. From there they went to the Butte area of Palmer where Peggy helped Dick establish Pioneer Peak Baptist Church. She and Dick retired in 1996 and remained at the church they founded in the home they built.
Peggy in survived by her children: Kenneth (Chris), Janet (Rick) & David (Tabetha); & 11 grandchildren - Stephen, Rachel, Elisabeth, Daniel, Sarah, Joshua, Mark, David, Melissa, Hannah & Isaac, & 13 Great Grandchildren Anna, Isabell, Maggie (Margaret), Skyler, Kaylie, Cayson, Matteo, Alessio Richard, Riley, Lucy, Cyrus, Everett &Audrey. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings; Lester, Fred, Betty, Bruce.
Peggy was laid to rest at Pioneer Cemetery in Palmer. A memorial service will be held at Pioneer Peak Baptist Church on August 15th 2026 at 11:00am
