Weekly recap—9/6/26:

This week, we welcomed the start of September at Midway Baptist Church. There’s a crispness to the morning air that seems to promise cooler weather and the slow approach of the fall season’s annual appearance. The word harvest comes to mind, and for believers, the duality of its meaning. May the harvest season and all of the fun fall things remind us to work diligently for the Lord’s harvest! If you’re looking for a place to worship on Sundays, we would love have you fellowship with us soon.

In Sunday School, we studied through the book of Habakkuk and God’s answer to questions about justice.

In service, Pastor David preached about God’s Word from Isaiah 55. He taught that no one can stand against God’s Word, and that it will accomplish all that God wants it to accomplish. He went further in sharing some of the things we know the Word accomplishes such as: Faith in God, sanctification, purification, wisdom, discernment, and defeating depression. He clarified that Jesus is the Word, and that He is both eternal and couldn’t be destroyed. He also reminded us that all other information; all of the views, opinions, and wisdom of man fall short, and only the Word of God is eternal.

After serve, we had BBQ spare ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, corn muffins, apple crisp with ice cream for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study was postponed in recognition of Labor Day to enjoy family time. Next Monday, we plan to meet together, Lord willing, at the church.

Announcements:
Pastor David is speaking on “Faith in an AI World” at the 2026 International Society of Christian Apologetics Conference. Please be in prayer for him this week. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to make it back for services this Sunday, but we will reconvene next Sunday (September 20th), Lord willing.

We are planning to have Pastor David share his “Faith in an AI World” presentation one evening at Midway Baptist Church soon! We’ll have a potluck dinner and fellowship time too. Check back for date/time!

We’ve planned to postpone our white-water rafting trip because of scheduling conflicts, most likely until the spring. We’ll be sharing more details as the time approaches, so be sure to follow along for further updates.

We have been looking into a visit to the Arc Encounter in Cincinnati this fall or early next spring. Once we have the details, we’ll be sure to share! If you’re interested in attending, please let us know which work best with your schedule.

Weekly recap—8/23/26:

It’s that time when summer comes to a close and schools start back, and hopefully, the weather begins to gradually cool off. As the Lord brings it mind, let’s pray for the students, staff, and teachers to have a blessed year. If you’re looking for a place to worship on Sunday, join us as we celebrate God’s goodness and fellowship together.

In Sunday School, our ongoing study of Matthew took us through chapter 26 about Christ’s death on the cross as an atonement for our sins.

In service, Pastor David preached about fear from Isaiah 8. He challenged us to consider whether we’re putting our faith in earthly things like jobs, money, status, government, military, etc. and reminded us that God is with us. That fact, is a blessing to believers because God is our sanctuary, but a curse to the enemies of God. He shared that we are told to fear the Lord, not man, and while we should fight against evil, we need never despair, because God is faithful. We don’t need to formulate our own plans; God doesn’t need our help, and we can trust God even if/when difficulties arise—our hope isn’t in our circumstances; our hope is in our Savior!

After serve, we had chicken and dumplings from the homestead ministry’s chickens, with mashed potatoes, homemade rolls, and lemon-blueberry pound cake for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study met for a work day on the homestead. Thank you for everyone who came and worked through the heat! We sure appreciate your help! Next Monday, we plan to meet at the coffee shop.

We had a fabulous visit at the Bible History Center in LaGrange. We had a great turnout and enjoyed learning, fellowshipping, and eating together.

Weekly recap—8/9/26:

God’s Word instruct us in 1 Thessalonians 4:11 to aspire to live a quiet life. The world around us tends to make demands that we move at break-neck speed and pursuit all the world has to offer. Midway Baptist Church isn’t flashy. We don’t have a modern approach to ministry. We are a small, simple church with a big heart, and we want to encourage one another to grow in loving the Lord and our neighbors as ourselves. Come join us Sunday as we worship and fellowship together.

In Sunday School, our ongoing study of Matthew took us through chapter 24 about staying alert for Christ’s return.

In service, we were thankful to have Pastor David back home. He preached from 1 Kings 21 about jealousy and greed. He explained how people justify coveting through thinking, “they have enough” or “they have more than they need”; rarely do people say, “I’m feeling greedy and jealous.” He reminded us that God calls coveting, “idolatry”, because it demonstrates a lack of faith in God to provide for our needs. What should believers do if/when we recognize covetousness in our lives? We should repent, ask God for His forgiveness and mercy, and be willing to endure any consequences we may face. We should learn to live lives marked by contentment and ask and trust the Lord for our needs.

After serve, we had Shepherd’s pie, homemade dinner rolls, Mr. Paul’s famous spiced eggs, and a blondie for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study was canceled this week, but the ladies plan to meet together next Monday morning, Lord willing!

Weekly recap—8/2/26:

August has arrived and wasn’t it a beautifully sunny day? Cool breezes on a bright morning make for a prefect start to the week. Midway Baptist Church welcomes the opportunity to share the start of each week with you!

In Sunday School, our ongoing study of Matthew took us through chapter 22 about honoring God in every aspect of life.

In service, we were thankful to, once again, have Noah Stevens filling in for Pastor David. His sermon was from Malachi on Honoring the Lord. He walked us through the ways that the Lord was being dishonored by the Jews not offering God their best and only putting in half-hearted efforts in their worship and offering of sacrifices. In fact, they were honoring the government more as they feared man’s authority and denied the power of God. As Christians today, he reminded us that, while we no longer have to make sacrifices to God, we are still called to honor Him with all our hearts, all our minds, and all of our strength. That we honor the Lord when we prioritize our time and actions to glorify Him. When we have hearts willing to live, serve, and honor Him, not just walk through the motions of obedience with a “box-checking” mentality, because we’ve taken His Word for granted instead of relying on it with awe and reverence. He told us not to fool ourselves into believing that God is pleased with our empty rituals and challenged us with ways to avoid such a trap through: honest self-reflection; judging ourselves according to scripture, heeding conviction, confession and repentance, and filling our lives with good thoughts and deeds with genuineness of heart.

After serve, we had Spicy Red Beans and Rice, watermelon, Mr. Paul’s famous spiced eggs, and a caramel torte for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study met at the homestead. The ladies shared a meaningful time of studying God’s Word together and enjoying fellowship through sharing how God is working in their lives. The ladies will be meeting again this coming Monday morning. It’ll be a wonderful time together, as always!

Announcements:
Pastor David is scheduled to be home from Australia on Friday. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he travels back home to Georgia. We want to give a special thanks to Noah Stevens for filling in for him while he was away.

Weekly recap—7/26/26:

It’s hard to believe it’s the last Sunday in July! Summer is slipping away, and before long, school will start back and fall will bring with it cooler weather. For some, that’s a welcome change; others may want to savor the last lazy days of summer for as long as they can. Regardless of where you find yourself in the debate, Midway Baptist Church is here to offer you a place to call home in every season of life!

In Sunday School, our ongoing study of Matthew took us through chapter 21 and centered on Jesus’ authority over all things.

In service, we were thankful to have Noah Stevens filling in for Pastor David. His sermon was from James 1 regarding conflict and anger. He taught that we are to be quick to listen; meaning listen to understand which often lessens conflicts. We should be slow to speak; we should intentionally consider our words and control our emotions maturely. We should be slow to anger as anger is an intentional path we choose by the thoughts we allow ourselves to entertain without self-discipline. He shared appropriate responses to anger. Righteous anger is beyond just utilizing self-restraint. It’s responding with humility, because you’re submitted to the Lord. The right response to anger is being forgiving. It’s being willing to apologize first. It seeks reconciliation even when situations are unfair, because it’s about doing what’s right over being “right.” It doesn’t depend on whether we feel we’re wrong or have been done wrong. It’s a desire to seek unity through Jesus Christ.

After serve, we had Philly cheese steaks, fruit salad, chips and dip, and cake for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study met at the homestead. The ladies were few in number, but that didn’t stop the time of fellowship and sharing how God is working in their lives. If you’re attending next Monday morning, wear your work clothes! The ladies will be working together on the homestead ministry. It’ll be a wonderful time together working side by side!

Weekly recap—7/5/26:

Sunday was the day after Independence Day and the celebration of 250 years of freedom! We are blessed to live in this beautiful country and enjoy the liberties that our ancestors secured for us. National freedom is truly a cause for celebration, but freedom from the bo***ge of sin is the most sacred freedom, and it’s available to everyone. At Midway Baptist Church, we celebrate our freedom in Christ most of all!

In Sunday School, our ongoing study of Matthew took us through chapter 28 focusing on our task to share the Gospel with all people.

In service, Pastor David preached a message on Independence from Psalm 35. He challenged us to consider how we preserve our freedom. He taught that we must turn our hearts to God, because nothing else we do has eternal value. He reminded us that we must fight to keep our liberty, because liberty requires sacrifice and winning spiritual battles takes physical responses. We must be united as believers, because the enemy works to divide and destroy, but Jesus is what unites all believers everywhere. It’s important to understand the difference between liberty and licentiousness, because licentiousness is about self indulgence, and liberty is not about lusts, but using freedom for righteousness. Finally, he encouraged us to pray for our freedoms to be preserved.

After serve, we celebrated Rachael Brown and her graduation from nursing school! We had Pulled BBQ pork sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw, watermelon and pineapples, and a confetti cake for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study met at the coffee shop. The ladies shared a time of fellowship discussing the ways God is working in their lives. They plan to meet at the homestead next Monday morning.

Weekly recap—6/28/26:

This Sunday was the last Sunday in June, and this year is more than half way gone. Sometimes, the days seem to slip by without much notice, but life ought to be lived intentionally. At Midway Baptist Church, we want to support you in the growing in Godliness and living intentionally for the Lord.

In Sunday School, our ongoing study of Matthew took us through chapter 18 focusing on forgiveness and how Jesus calls us to forgive one another as He has forgiven us.

In service, Pastor David preached a message on A Call to Holy Living from 1 Peter 1. He taught that we are called to live in obedience to God, not according to the standards of the world. That though we have grace, it is not a license to sin and true salvation involves transformation. That Obedience is the response to your heart’s condition. Believers obey the Lord as a response to their love for Him; their choices in life reveal their hearts. Fearing the Lord is evidence of wisdom. Living without Godly fear enables justifying unrighteousness which leads to foolish behavior and ultimately evil.

After serve, we celebrated Noah and Sabrina Stevens with a cookout! We had burgers and brats, chips and dip, baked beans, watermelon, and caramel torte for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study met at the homestead and discussed the Word and the ways the Lord has been working in lives of His children. We enjoyed a wonderful time of fellowship together and we plan to meet at the coffee shop, Lord willing, next Monday.

Weekly recap—6/21/26:

This week has been full of reflection. Father’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the importance of fathers; none more so than our Heavenly Father. In a society that seems to devalue the importance of masculinity, the church should be a haven for rest and renewal as well as a place for growing Godly men. Thank you to all the faithful fathers out there being the example, the stability, the men God has called you to be. At Midway Baptist Church, we appreciate and celebrate you!

In Sunday School, our ongoing study of Matthew focused on chapter 17 and how Jesus fulfills God’s message of hope found throughout the Law and prophets.

In service, we had the pleasure of having Noah Stevens share a message from Exodus 34 about the Importance of Names. He explained how God used the name, “I am” as His description as well as how we experience Him. That the name, “I am” means He is self-existent (the keeper/governor of natural law). He is a God of compassion and mercy (slow to anger); abounding in love, which is an unconditional attribute; forgiving—lifting our burden of sin; and just in how He deals with evil according to His timing. He shared that knowledge about God isn’t the same as experiencing Him as your Heavenly Father, that Jesus is the ultimate experience with God, and today, believers experience God through the ongoing work of His Holy Spirit in their lives.

After serve, we enjoyed lasagna, Caesar salad, Italian bread, and cake for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study met at the coffee shop and discussed the next study we’re planning. We enjoyed a wonderful time of fellowship together and we plan to meet at the homestead, Lord willing, next Monday.

Pastor David will be back from his Key West Gospel Chapel mission trip, and we can’t wait to hear about all the activities in Key West. Please be praying for safe travels and the Lord to bless the mission trip, the Key West Gospel Chapel, and lives of everyone touched by their work.

Weekly recap—6/14/26:

Well, it’s been a while since we’ve had a Midway Baptist Church update; apologies offered. Noah Stevens and Sabrina Toy got married, and made it back to GA safely. The homestead ministry continues to expand, and God’s will and purposes continue in the lives and ministries of His children!

In Sunday School, our ongoing study of Matthew took us through chapter 16 as we discussed following Jesus, the Messiah, our Savior sent by God.

In service, Pastor David’s sermon was on Biblical Heroism. He warned us not to be surprised when we face opposition for taking Biblical stands. He took us through both Old and New Testament examples including: David facing his brothers and the Philstines, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refusing to worship an idol, Daniel facing the King, Jesus facing the cross, the Apostles being threatened for spreading the gospel, martyrs throughout history, as well as the ongoing persecution of Christians around the world. Additionally, he warned us not to boast about how we “think” we would respond in a moment of opposition. Instead, we should pray for strength when that time comes and use language such as, “If the Lord wills and enables me . . . “ He left us with the encouragement that we are set apart, and our faith and hope is in the Lord. Though we are still in a battle, we know Who wins the war, so we fight the good fight no matter the cost, because we fight with the power of God!

After serve, we enjoyed roast beef and veggies with rice and sweet rolls, and cake for dessert—with coffee, of course!

The Monday Morning Ladies’ Bible Study didn’t meet together this week due to illness, but we plan to meet together, Lord willing next Monday.

Pastor David will be away June 21st as Midway Baptist Church helps the Key West Gospel Chapel with missions activities in Key West. Noah Stevens will be preaching in his absence. Please be praying for safe travels and the Lord to bless this mission trip, the Key West Gospel Chapel, and lives of everyone who is going to be touched by their work.

We want to welcome the newlyweds, Noah and Sabrina Stevens and celebrate by having a special luncheon reception in their honor on June 28th. We hope you can join us for the festivities!

The Homestead ministry continues expanding! The chicks and goslings arrived safely, and they are growing nicely. Thank you for all the ongoing help and support. Please continue praying for God to bless and use this ministry, and for us to have the hearts to be faithful as He leads us. We continue to seeking opportunities to bless our community and beyond.
