The History of Butler

The city of Butler was established around 1852 when the Kentucky Central Railroad was built through the area. When it was incorporated on February 1, 1868, the city was named for U.S. representative William O. Butler.

The longest wooden covered bridge in the world, below, was once in Butler, Kentucky. The Butler Station Bridge was located in Pendleton County over the Licking River. It was 456 feet in length, the bridge consisted of three spans which were 152-feet each.

One of the first settlers here was Pope Williams, who owned and cultivated the land on which Butler now stands.
