Butler LGBTQ Interfaith Network Affirming the spirituality of all LGBTQ people, their friends and allies. We celebrate the unity we create in the midst of our diversity.

Our core message is that religious-based condemnation of LGBTQ people can cause great harm to them and our society. When we focus on harm caused by religious antagonism towards LGBTQ individuals, then people of faith can understand why religion must no longer be misused to justify hostile attitudes and actions toward LGBTQ people. We support the Ten Affirmations for Gay, Le***an, Bisexual, Transge

nder and Q***r Questioning spirituality.

1. We affirm the inherent beauty, worth and dignity of every GLBTQ and straight person.
3. There are many paths to the sacred. The spiritual paths of GLBTQ persons are among them.
4. The choice is not whether to be GLBTQ or straight, but whether or not to live an authentic life.
5. Coming out is a courageous and spiritual act.
6. Sexual expression is one of the many sacred ways that GLBTQ and straight adults can express the depth of love in their relationships.
7. We support each person's journey of integrating spirituality and sexuality, which leads to wholeness.
8. Marriage is a sacred union for people who are committed to each other without regard to gender. Love makes a family.
9. Spiritual leaders must take responsibility to lead, protect and affirm GLBTQ people: children, adults and their families.
10. No one is free when others are oppressed.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month -- here's an online event sponsored by the United States District Attorney's Office in Western PA. Persad Center will be part, speaking about sexual violence directed toward members of the LGBTQ+ community.

SAGE Needs Volunteers to Zoom with Sen Toomey to pass the National Equality Act

National SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) has identified a group of US Senators as potential supporters of the National Equality Act which provides protection for the LGBTQ community against discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodation. PA's own Pat Toomey is one of the senators selected. SAGE has asked for small groups (15 or less) to meet with Sen. Toomey and/or staff in May via Zoom to share stories about discrimination experienced by themselves, a friend or a loved one. SAGE will provide a brief on-line training session to prepare for the 30 minute virtual meeting with Toomey's staff. Anyone living in PA can participate and if you or someone you know would be an effective voice for equality by participating please contact Jeff Miller ([email protected]). The date for the training and meeting will be set for a time that all participants are available.

Being that we won't be able to have a meeting April/May & that we are usually off June/July...We will reconvene the group in the Fall. Thanks to all the open minds & open hearts that have participated up to this point. With patience, a brighter future awaits us!
