North Main Street Church of God began in 1907 with its first revival held at the Stoney Run School House located north of Butler, Pennsylvania on Rt. 308. Church meetings followed at the home of Sheldon and Anna Young until 1919 when services moved to the Mt. Strotman became the pastor until 1932 with a new location for the church on Homewood Avenue in downtown Butler. Following, pastor Hattie Sch
ultz led the congregation until 1935 when pastor Brady Fair came to lead the church. It was in the 1930s that the Slovak speaking Church of God joined the Homewood Avenue Church of God. Following pastor Brady Fair, Rev. Powell came to the church in 1946. Powell's leadership, the church moved to 420 North Main Street in downtown Butler. That same year, A.J.'s brother, N.K. Powell, relocated the "Radio Revival Hour" (a national radio program) to Butler and joined A.J. in pastoring the congregation. In 1958, N.K. Powell's son, Gordon Powell, became an associate pastor and later became the senior pastor in 1973. The church would relocate one final time to its current location at 1201 North Main Street Ext. in 1964. In the fall of 2001 Rev. Dave Brown became the pastor of North Main Street Church of God and retired in the summer of 2012. Today, North Main is lead by pastor Brandon Lenhart and a myriad of other pastors on staff. North Main is a vibrant and dynamic church of amazing people who exist to help people develop into completely committed followers of Christ who know Christ intimately, grow in Christ continually, and go for Christ daily with the good news of God's love and hope for those who would believe in Jesus.
