The Feast Day of St. Teresa of Calcutta
Here are some facts about St. Teresa:
She was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, which is now the capital of North Macedonia.
She chose the name Teresa when she made her first profession of vows in 1931, honoring St. Therese de Lisieux.
In September 1946, she experienced a call from God to leave the convent and live among the poorest of the poor.
In 1952, she opened Nirmal Hriday (Home of the Pure Heart) in Calcutta, converting an abandoned temple into a free hospice where the terminally ill could die with dignity.
She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She gave the prize fund to the poor in India.
Pope Francis canonized her as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church on September 4, 2016, with her feast day set on the anniversary of her death, September 5.
Today and everyday we ask St. Teresa to pray for us🙏🏼
