I thank God for another opportunity to live in a nation where we enjoy many freedoms, including the precious freedom to worship Him without fear. That freedom is a blessing, and I never want to take it for granted.
At the same time, as Christians, we remember that while we are citizens of this nation, our highest allegiance belongs to God. We respect our country's flag, but we worship only Jesus Christ. We pray for our nation, honor those who have served and sacrificed, and seek to be faithful citizens. Yet we never forget that every earthly kingdom is temporary, while the Kingdom of God is eternal.
For me, the flag is not merely a symbol of a holiday. As a retired servicemember, it represents years of service, sacrifice, duty, and hope. As a pastor, it reminds me that while I honor my country, the Cross always outranks every flag.
May God continue to bless our nation with wisdom, justice, mercy, and peace. And may He help each of us live in such a way that our lives honor both our responsibilities as citizens on earth and our calling as citizens of heaven.
