Ezekiel 18:20 tells us the soul that sins shall die. This is the law of sin and death pronounced by God which applies to all people. Now what? Every person on Earth, every age, every nationality has sinned. God doesn't want anyone to die, so the Father sent his Son Jesus to die for us on the cross. Did it work? Romans 8:2 gives us the answer. "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." Just as federal law overrides local law here in the United States, the death of Jesus overrides all the curses of the Old Covenant. Have you ever gone out to eat with a friend or family member who at the end of the meal misses the joy of the experience. Something was over or undercooked by 30 seconds, the waiting time for the food was 15 minutes instead of 12. The restaurant was a couple degrees too chilly or too warm which causes them to get upset, ruining their day out. We as Christians need to stop expecting everything in our lives to be ideal. We live a life of assurance that God has known what was coming in our lives and allowed it to happen. We know our place in heaven is secure, yet we don't dwell on our blessings but sometimes succumb to bitterness. These things should not be. - Pastor Dave, Grace Harvest Church, Burton Michigan.

People who do not know Jesus are looking for people who have changed, becoming more like Jesus. It gives them hope. It gives them hope that they too can change the facets of their life that cause them dismay. This is why we need to endeavor to live a life of peace and kindness. I was just thinking this morning about the statement in scripture given to us in 2 Timothy, chapter 3, verse 13 [KJV]. "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived." Speaking to us of what to expect as we await the return of Jesus, we should not be astonished at what we see going on in the world around us. Every day seems to deepen the divide between mankind and the dictates of God. The deception that God either doesn't exist or won't address the hostility against Him is spreading in our society. James 1:4 "but let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." When we are in a place in our lives where everything is upside down, we can be assured that while waiting to see the answer to our trouble, we are growing. It may be hard to sit back and put things in God's hands, but that is exactly what we are instructed to do. God wants us to get to the point where we fear no storm nor any threat: he wants us perfect.
