Title: God's Design for Taking Down Strongholds: Prayer

[Audio Link is Below]

I. Know the Goal of Standing
A. Standing is God’s Call & Design
1. His Design is that He (God) is able; we are not.
2. Eph 6:12 Flesh & Blood are the Mission Field, not the motivating enemy
3. God has His eyes on the Weak
4. 2 Cor 10:4
a. The Power is “in God”
b. What is a Stronghold?
c. How do we remove strongholds?
i. Not by going around casting out demons. Why?
* It’s not in our spiritual armor
* We must know exactly what to do
* Jude 1:9 Do not accuse Satan
* We do not have God’s sovereign insight into how He is using Satan’s kingdom (biblical examples)
• Job (Job 2:1-7)
• Peter A (Luke 22:31-34)
• Peter B (Matt 16:23)
• Judas (John 6:70; Luke 9:1)
• Paul (2 Cor 12:7-9)
• Eph 6:18 “All Prayer”

Do you read the Bible daily? If so, you're in the company of 31% of church goers. We are blessed to have the very words of God at our fingertips, not to mention all the digital tools, including Bible apps that are available. We can search any word and find every verse where it is mentioned in scripture. For example, the word "patience" occurs 7 times in the book of Revelation. God's Word is truth. That in itself is refreshing and should be reason enough to want to read what God says about many things, especially if we say we're a follower of Christ. We tend to do what we want to do. Maybe we need to ask ourselves why we have no interest in reading the Bible daily (especially when we profess Jesus is our Savior.) 🫣 If our motivation comes from external pressure--"you need to read it," we either won't do it or we'll simply endure it. Pray about it, ask for God's help. Hunger for it! God says when we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him. Download a good Bible app. Read Jeremiah 29:13, and keep reading God's Word daily. Faith comes by hearing the word of God, Romans 10:17-read it in your own Bible. 🤗🙏

I am blessed to hear 2 sermons every Sunday (I play the piano at 2 churches.) The sermon at Mt.Zion yesterday by Pastor Jock was about "Peace." As Followers of Christ we are to be "islands of tranquility" in the sea of conflict, strife, fear, and confusion, known as the world. Peace is the rule of God in my life. The kingdom of God has come to us and Christ has left us with His peace (John 14:27). In order to be a peacemaker, we must first make peace with God. Jesus yielded to death on the cross in order to reconcile us to God (Colossians 1:20). Jesus IS our peace. A wall of hostility prevents peace. The wall can be broken down when we pledge allegiance to the King and Kingdom of Peace! We are called to be agents of grace and peacemakers. When the peace of Christ is realized in us, then can we have peace with others. "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God" Matthew 5:9). JP

We have a women's Bible study at Mt.Celo. We're currently studying "Lord, Teach Me to Pray, by Kay Arthur. In our Weekender assignment, we are to see if there are any scriptures that would take care of worries we may have (Matthew 6:24-34).
I came up with 7 areas of potential over-careful or over-anxious thought. (There are more, but I ran out of writing space in my book.) The 7 I came up with are: Having Enough, Sickness, Feeling or Being Alone, Someone Not Saved, Pain, Sin, & Old Age. I took the time to find scriptures that address each of these worries. (Death-fear of- would also be a worry to counter with scripture for peace of mind, and there are plenty of scriptures for this one!) I've known about doing this for a long time, but knowing & doing are not the same. My faith and my peace of mind were boosted when I actually took the time to search out scripture that matches my worries and puts them to rest. The Bible app on my phone is an excellent tool for this! For instance, I searched "old age" on my Bible app, and found there are 15 mentions of "old age" in scripture. 😳💜
Writing out worries on paper and then writing out the scriptures that address them creates a great resource for future reference, too. As new concerns arise, continue to write them down and add corresponding scriptures. (Putting something on paper helps get it out of our head and see it more clearly so we can deal with it.) For instance, I addressed the concern about "Having Enough" with Philippians 4:19, "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Prayer is a life-line. Once we identify anxious thoughts along with scripture that addresses them, we are ready to confess them (yes, they are sins if they take precedence over God) and take them to God in prayer--in the light of His Word, and thank Him that He has answers for us! "Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry EVERYTHING to God in Prayer!" (Emphasis mine/Hymn: What a Friend) Now make your list. You'll be glad you did! 🤗
