GOD GIVES GRACE TO
There is a reason James 4:6 says God gives grace to the humble.
Because grace is not for the person pretending they do not need it.
Grace is not for the person defending every sin, excusing every attitude, blaming everyone else, and acting like God should bless a heart that refuses to bow.
Grace meets the person who finally stops pretending.
God gives grace to the humble.
The person who can say, “Lord, I was wrong.”
The person who can receive correction without turning it into an argument.
The person who can admit they do not have everything together.
The person who would rather be changed by God than praised by people.
Humility opens the door that pride keeps locked.
God gives grace to the repentant.
Not the person who only feels bad because consequences showed up.
Not the person who cries today and protects the same sin tomorrow.
But the person who turns.
The person who comes into the light.
The person who says, “God, I do not want to live like this anymore.”
That person is not met with cruelty.
They are met with mercy.
God gives grace to the brokenhearted.
The one who has been carrying grief no one sees.
The one who smiles in public and falls apart in private.
The one who feels like life has crushed something inside them.
Psalm 34 says the Lord is near to the brokenhearted.
That means your pain does not push God away.
Your brokenness can become the place where you finally see how close He really is.
God gives grace to the weary.
The person who is tired of fighting.
Tired of praying.
Tired of waiting.
Tired of carrying responsibility.
Tired of trying to be strong for everyone else.
Jesus did not say, “Come to me, all who have everything figured out.”
He said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
God gives grace to the faithful.
The one who keeps showing up when no one notices.
The one who keeps obeying when it feels slow.
The one who keeps praying when the answer has not come yet.
The one who keeps choosing God when their emotions are not cooperating.
Faithfulness may look boring to the world, but heaven sees it differently.
God gives grace to the obedient.
Not because obedience earns salvation.
But because obedience positions the heart in surrender.
Some people want grace to excuse rebellion.
But biblical grace teaches us to leave rebellion behind.
Grace does not just forgive.
Grace trains.
Grace strengthens.
Grace changes.
And God gives grace to the one who returns.
That is the beauty of the gospel.
You may have wandered.
You may have ignored conviction.
You may have run from God longer than you want to admit.
You may have wasted seasons, damaged relationships, made choices you regret, and convinced yourself there was no way back.
But the Father still receives the returning child.
Grace is not God pretending sin was small.
Grace is God making a way for sinners to come home through Jesus.
So if you are proud, humble yourself.
If you are hiding, come into the light.
If you are weary, come to Jesus.
If you are broken, do not assume God is far from you.
If you have wandered, return.
Because God resists the proud.
But He gives grace to the humble.
James 4:6
