Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe has written to the entire church today, the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11.

God the compassionate one, whose loving care extends to all the world, we remember this day your children of many nations and many faiths whose lives were cut short by the fierce flames of anger and hatred. Console those who continue to suffer and grieve, and give them comfort and hope as they look to the future. Out of what we have endured, give us the grace to examine our relationships with those who perceive us as the enemy, and show our leaders the way to use our power to serve the good of all for the healing of the nations. This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord who, in reconciling love, was lifted up from the earth that he might draw all things to himself.

On Friday, Archdeacon Susan McMillan and the Rev. Earl Kooperkamp were arrested during a protest outside of the ICE offices in Williston.

That evening, Bishop Shannon wrote to our diocesan household stating, "As Christians, we are called not only to bear witness to injustice but to act. When Jesus tells us to love our neighbor, that is not a passive action. It is constant, immediate, and proactive.

Civil disobedience, which has a long history in our country and in the Episcopal Church, is one way we actively love our neighbors. It demonstrates our commitment to striving “for justice and peace among all people, and [to] respect the dignity of every human being” as we state in our baptismal covenant."

God of Justice, you have called us to be a people who stand for justice and peace. As this day comes to a close and this action ends, may all that began today be the catalyst of freedom. May our words, thoughts, and deeds lessen the likelihood of harm and empower others to take up the mantle of the prophet. May all that has happened be pleasing to those who have stomped these streets in the past and who continue to tread down the way with us. Bring rest to our bodies and spirits so that this evening we may be refreshed for the next day’s trials.

Keep guard over those in prison and those in the shadows. Protect those in harm’s way and liberate those who cry out.

We make this prayer in the name of all that is good, holy, and beautiful. Amen.

Congratulations to Mission Farm, Killington, VT! Mission Farm was awarded $5,744 by The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an arm of the USDA, in order to repair trails damaged in the flooding of 2023 and 2024.

Please join us in welcoming Karen Muheim, who has joined the diocesan staff in the role of senior accountant.

Karen brings 30 years of experience in accounting to the diocesan staff, most recently at a school for the deaf. As our senior accountant, Karen will work with Lisa Hamm, diocesan chief financial officer, on diocesan financial operations. Her first day was July 20.

Last Friday was the 33 year anniversary of the election of the Rt. Rev. Mary Adelia McLeod as our 9th Bishop.

The first female Diocesan Bishop in the Episcopal Church, Bishop McLeod helped to pave the way for all of the female Diocesan Bishops in the Episcopal Church and wider Anglican Communion.
