Today, our Christ the King School community gathered at the flagpole for a special September 11 Remembrance Ceremony.

We were honored to welcome representatives from the Burlington Vermont Fire Department and the United States military as we came together to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the courage and sacrifice of our first responders and members of the Armed Forces, and pray for all those who serve and protect our communities and country.

Our brief ceremony included prayer and reflection, the raising of the American flag, and our students singing “Amazing Grace” and “God Bless America”.

Although September 11 occurred before any of our students were born, its lessons of faith, courage, service, sacrifice, and unity remain important for each new generation.

This morning, the Christ the King School community gathered around our flagpole to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, to honor the courage and sacrifice of first responders and members of our military, and to pray for our nation and for peace.

Together, our students sang Amazing Grace, including these powerful words:

“The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.”

Twenty-five years after a day that brought such tremendous loss and sorrow, these words remind us where we place our hope. Through moments of darkness and uncertainty, we trust in God’s promise, His protection, and His enduring grace.

May we never forget those whose lives were lost. May we always honor the first responders, members of the military, and ordinary Americans who answered tragedy with extraordinary courage and selflessness. And may we continue to teach our children that even in our darkest moments, faith calls us to hope, to serve one another, and to seek peace.

May God bless those we remember today, and may God bless America. 🇺🇸

We were blessed to welcome Bishop John McDermott to Christ the King School today as he celebrated our first school Mass of the new year! Following Mass, Bishop McDermott took time to visit classrooms, greet our students and teachers, and share in the joy and excitement of a new year at CKS.

We are so grateful for Bishop McDermott’s presence, prayers, and continued support of our school community. What a wonderful way to begin another year together!

⚓ An Incredible Navy Week Experience at CKS! ⚓

Our students had the special opportunity to gather for an assembly with CDR Mike Hall, Commanding Officer of the nuclear-powered Los Angeles-class submarine USS Montpelier (SSN 765), joined by several members of his crew!

We also welcomed historians from the Naval History & Heritage Command, who helped bring the Navy’s rich history and traditions to life, along with a very popular special guest — “CDR Bond,” one of the Navy’s four-legged mascots! 🐾⚓

What an unforgettable opportunity for our students to meet the sailors who serve our country, learn about life aboard a submarine, explore our nation’s naval history, and celebrate Navy Week Burlington right here at CKS!

Thank you to all of our guests for making this such a memorable first week for our students!

What an unforgettable morning at Christ the King School! Our students and families had the incredible opportunity to welcome members of the United States Navy to campus as part of Navy Week Burlington and the celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary! ❤️🤍💙

The morning featured an impressive performance by the U.S. Navy Drill Team, followed by the fantastic sounds of the Jack Tar Brass Band. 🎺⚓️

Students also had the opportunity to visit with Navy Medicine Ambassadors and learn about the many ways people serve through Navy Medicine. Our guests included a dentist, psychiatrist, nurse, and members of the Medical Service Corps, giving students a firsthand look at the wide variety of careers, skills, and vocations found within the Navy.

We are incredibly grateful to all of our Navy guests for sharing their talents, experiences, and commitment to service with our students. What a special opportunity to bring history, music, medicine, service, and patriotism together right here on our campus!

Goodness. Discipline. Knowledge. For God and Country. 🇺🇸⚓️

What a wonderful way to begin the 2026–2027 school year! Our 8th graders stepped into their leadership role right away, warmly welcoming students and families back to campus and helping make the first morning extra special.

Together as a school community, Ms. Alderman opened our year in prayer, reminding us to place God at the center of all that we do.

And then Fr. Justin made sure we started the year with a splash! He blessed our students, faculty, and staff with Holy Water, sending us into the new school year surrounded by prayer, faith, and plenty of smiles!

We are so grateful to have our halls filled with students again and can't wait to see all that God has in store for CKS this year.

Here’s to a faith-filled, joyful, and blessed 2026–2027 school year!

What a wonderful way to begin a new school year!

Our teachers and staff began the week gathered together in Mass, grounding the days ahead in faith, prayer, and our shared mission. We were then treated to delicious meals thanks to the generosity of our amazing Teacher Appreciation Committee and Kountry Kart Deli —a reminder of just how blessed we are by the support of our CKS community.

The celebration continued at our Back to School Ice Cream Social, where it was wonderful to welcome families back to campus, reconnect with familiar faces, meet new ones, and share in the excitement of a new year together.

We are incredibly grateful for everyone who helped make these special moments possible and for the families, faculty, staff, and volunteers who make Christ the King such a special community. Our hearts are full, and we are excited for all that the 2026–2027 school year has in store!
