The beginning of our Bethany Lutheran College.
Almost 100 years old!

June 16, 1927: The Norwegian Synod opens the convention which votes to buy Bethany Lutheran College. After a weekend of debating the pros and cons of buying the school, the motion was made by Rev. George Gullixson to buy the school. Despite concerns over funding, the motion passed and Bethany Ladies College became Bethany Lutheran College - a two year school and high school.

The beginning of our ELS

Norwegian Lutherans not willing to join the new Norwegian Lutheran Church of America for conscience’s sake met at the Aberdeen Hotel in Saint Paul, Minnesota June 8 through June 11, 1917. A temporary organization was effected, a periodical founded and a regular meeting was called for the next year, when the Norwegian Synod of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded. This body later changed its name to the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) .
