Happy National Donut Day! The Salvation Army officially founded National Donut Day in 1938 in Chicago to honor the Donut Lassies who volunteered along with Salvation Army officers to fry dough on the front lines during WWI. This year we are celebrating by dropping off this sweet treat to our community's police and fire departments. Thank you to all of our first responders for all that you do!

Stop by our Thrift Store to celebrate with 20% off storewide and to get some more information on Donut Day!

We have news! We will be switching our pantry over to a client choice pantry. This will allow for our clients to shop with points for their families. In order for us to best transition to this method, the pantry will be closed next week, May 26-29th. We will re-open on June 2nd with our new Client Choice procedures. Please be patient with us as we work together for this change.

Did you know that a service that The Salvation Army provides is helping with flood kits? We have kits that have gloves, mops, tarp, sponges, squeegees, along with other tools and supplies to help clean up a house if it floods. This week, we are supposed to receive a lot of rain and we are officially in a flood warning. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you are in need of a flood kit. If you are able, come on down to 216 Columbus Dr during business hours to ask for a kit.

We are going BANANAS at The Salvation Army over this fruit! Come down to The Salvation Army at 216 Columbus Dr until 3pm today to pick up some bananas.

If you need some ideas of what to do with them, my personal favorite is banana bread made with just a few ingredients many of us already have.

2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 large eggs, beaten
2 1/3 cup mashed overripe bananas (leave bananas on counter until they turn completely brown)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease 9x5 loaf pan
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in large bowl
Combine brown sugar and butter in separate bowl, mix until smooth. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended
Combine dry and wet ingredients
Bake in preheated oven until toothpick/fork inserted to center comes out clean or about 60 minutes

Optional: add nuts or chocolate chips.

And keep in mind you can volunteer too in those last three days! If you are looking to volunteer you can sign up at registertoring.com.

Because of The Salvation Army, families and individuals in Omaha receive the help and hope they need. That's why I just made a donation. Will you join me?

We wanted to take this moment to thank our community for your generosity! We have been so blessed by your resposne to our Angel Tree this year. We are so excited for how we are going to be able to assist and impact the families who have signed up due to your generosity. If you are interested in donating for Angel Tree still, our return date for toys is December 12th. Thank you all for the love you have shown our community!
